Chip, I'm so sorry I missed this contest. It was two days before my students' annual piano recital. I'd have absolutely voted for this deep and beautiful poem because I couldn't love it more. Really exceptional work. Congratulations on the win. I'm not surprised a bit. xo

Thanks, Rachelle! And kudos on winning the 'Jealousy' contest. I was jealous when I read it, knowing it was better than mine and would win- great job!
reply by Rachelle Allen on 07-Jun-2019
Hahaha. You've won a lot lately, it seems to me! And yours was very good. I did like it a lot. xo

Thanks! I'm looking at your profile picture and thinking about a contest topic based on our pictures. Problem being that not everyone has a picture in their profile. I'm thinking it could be a poem or 50/75 word story about the picture, either true or fictional. Those with a simple head shot clearly would not be much of a prompt, but others absolutely could be- like yours. It could be even more interesting- or provocative- to write what would have to be a fictional piece about someone else's profile picture- with said person's consent prior, of course. I've ruffled enough feathers around here lately, I think;^) Just thinking out loud...

Ohhh, Chip - that seems like a mighty slippery slope to me! But I'll tell you what: you write a short story based on my profile picture, and I'll do the same for yours. It sounds like a delightful challenge that I am big-time on board for. Deal? xo

Deal! For public consumption? Ground rules?

And I ask to have a framework by which to approach this (50/75/no word limit) and, more importantly, not to potentially offend you and embarrass myself;^)
reply by Rachelle Allen on 07-Jun-2019
Well, as an educator for the past thirty-eight years, I assure you, Chip, I am DECADES beyond being offended by anything. I have no ego left whatsoever, so have at it. Shall we exchange our creations via pm and then decide whether we want to take them public or not? I'll accept whatever framework you choose. I'm the quintessential rule-follower!!

PM works. If you've read my "TV Sitcom" and/or "Carnal Caperings" contest entries, you may have a better idea why I asked. If after we complete our respective stories, we mutually determine that they are too tantalizing and brilliant NOT to share with the masses, then we'll create a contest around it, submit ours, and tie for first place!

Love it!!! Let the wild rumpus start! I'm totally psyched.

In accordance with the Motion Picture Industry, which of the following ratings would be acceptable?
    G
    PG
    R
    NC-17
    X

The follow-on question would be: which is preferable? That's if I was going to ask. Which I'm not. Yet.

Hello Chip,
Congratulations on the win!
A wonderful poem in the 5-5-5 form
which describes poetry very well.
Love the prism image that lends insight.
Well done and well deserved win.

"Beyond The Words", is short, succinct and very much to the point. With a minimum of words, this talented poet has told it how it is. I look forward to seeing your next post.

Yes indeed, the wonders of words are amazing, I believe poets have a sacred trust, it mirrors the best by far poetry I've read in the bible, I think people are afraid to read it, because it hold mysteries people don't want to read, too close to the bone. The psalms are classical free verse, proverbs are amazing, Ecclesiastes, Job and Song of Songs are copied by most poets at some stage, a beautifully written contest winner Chip, blessings, Roy

Chris I read your poem and it is good, but you need two more syllables to make it into a fifteen syllable poem. There are many ways this one could be "written". :) just a suggestion.

    (It's Chip;^) I'm confused, as I count 15 syllables. What am I missing?
reply by poetwatch on 02-Jun-2019
Wondrous I believe is two syllables and prisms is one syllable, ( Chip ). Sorry about that. :) Those are where I think you err. I probably wrong but check dictionary.
reply by the author on 02-Jun-2019
Well I'll be, never knew that about prisms...phonetically, at least the way most people including myself pronounce it, it seems to clearly have two. I counted 2 for wondrous, so just one short. I can add "can" after we and resolve that...nice catch!

Hello Chip Kuzborski
just in fifteen words I smile to know that you believe that

Poems are wondrous
prisms through which we
see beyond the words.

Yes, this is short philosophical poem is to true. Words seem to have so much deeper meaning in poems with the metaphors and other poetic tools.
