I'm glad that you wrote about the Notre Dame cathedral. Yes, let us pray for the full recovery of the beautiful building. And thankfully, we know that God is everywhere and doesn't need the buildings. About four years ago, someone did a thorough digital recording of the whole structure, so it's likely to be restored well.

This is an excellent post, Alicia, in memory of what Notre Dame had been for centuries. We grieve over the loss or partial loss of such a place. Of course it will be rebuilt, but we all mourn that it withstood for so long the assault of time, war, and weather, but not fire. Marilyn

Our newscasts have been flooded with stories of the devastating Notre Dame fire, and today are saying it can be reconstructed and the towers are stable. I am glad you saw it in its splendor and reflected that in your rhymed couplets. Sighs- Joan

Hi Alicia,
It is sad to read that a beautiful, historic cathedral went up in flames. Perhaps a restoration can bring it back to some semblance of its former self.
Lucky you that you got to see the Cathedral. It sounds magnificent. I like that it had gargoyles "which hold purpose, secrets and tails that coil" (my favorite part of your poem). Yes, hopefully it wasn't a terrorist act that caused the fire.
As to your author notes ... I can understand why the sight of the subway disturbed you. It took away from the 'old world' feel that you got from looking at the cathedral. The subway and the cathedral ... they are in such contrast to one another.
Hugs,
Connie

Your words are a tribute to Paris and Notre dame, it is such a terrible tragedy and a shock for Paris to have suffered this loss, there will be much restoration taking place now, and healing, love Dolly x

I love your post on this
horrific tragedy Miss Alicia.
I wonder how much of the church was lost?
I know they saved a lot, but also lost a lot.
How wonderful that you got to see it!
I'd love to see an old church with gargoyles!
I went to St.
Patrick's Cathedral in New York,
it was beautiful.
Love your poem and memories,
Happy Easter, stay well,
blessings...

Hi Judy! It is a beautiful church. I think just a portion of the rooftop area. They still have weekly service going... You'd think the news would update us. Patrick's Cathedral in New York is a wonderful place. All the churches are filled with history: architectural and religious. Thank you :)
