Mike, the picture is humorous, but it also serious commentary on several levels if one considers the symbolic suggestions. The poem does not strike me as humorous, so I might have but probably would not have disqualified it because the point it makes about how fanstory motivates people outweighs obedience to the rule. I think we would all be better off if we concentrated on improving our writing and helping others to improve theirs. Do we need competition and grading to produce and encourage excellent writing? Envy exposes self-doubt sometimes. And both probably are the cause of most high school bullying.
I like the artwork you chose to illustrate your poem

When I quit laughing I'll try to type a review. Am I correct to assume there is such a critter as Fanstory envy? Jealousy among the troops? Hope those writers able to diminish my tiny talent don't hit me all at one time. There would be nothing left but the letter O. Hmm, the connotation strikes me that envy only does its possessor ill effects. Oh, and I count 5-7-5 syllables...if it matters. That coming from an uneducated baffoon (see can't spell it right.) Yikes! Does that mean I'm exposed now and will get these envy-storians after me? Where is the nearest SPAG ditch I can hide in?

I'm not sure this is humour, so much as it is satire, but then that's MY interpretation because I see a lot of envy 'exposed' - LOL. This, Michael, is very clever, as well as funny. Ya did good with this wee form, man! :)) (Love that artwork too. LOL)

This humorous 5-7-5, Ah, Grammar School, has the correct format and pushes back against the unwashed masses of also-rans.

First of all congrats on your writer of the year award - I am certain you are well worthy of that honor - I for one appreciate talent and enjoy reading good writing - I'm not envious - but learn - from it - great poem by the way - short sweet and to the point - thanks for sharing - Ron

Yes, it most certainly does, Michael.
Talent is talent, and it's something inherent that just can't be taught.
You possess talent.
Many here possess a talent and flair for writing.
It's what we do with that talent that makes a difference.

This would certainly apply to envy of any kind, or at least, it should. I'm still relatively new here, so I'm not sure what kind of contentions may exist. Needless to say, you nailed the 5-7-5. Keep up the good writing!
