I must say that is the most closeup view of a shrew, I have had the opportunity to see and it is illustrative of your words about being a hungry little monster.

He?s a cutie.

Oh my goodness!
What a fun limerick, Bill. I love the play on words at its ending. Can't say that I have the same affinity for shrews that you do, but I can co-exist with them. I prepared stew this weekend for my husband, and well, he should meet your shrew: it's almost all gone!
Love the humor: we need more of it!

A near play on words that works: shrew heard as through. The rhythm of your limerick is perfect. Nice use of consonance with eat, pit, and quit.

Gotta' watch out for those greedy fat cats of the world, they eat and eat until there is nothing left. They then sleep until it is time for the next meal. Woe unto anybody or anything that resembles their edible food, for you will be consumed.

Lol. Do shrews have that great an appetite? I think of them as such little creatures. Very well done limerick appropriate for St. Patrick's Day and still keeping up your shrew theme!

The heart of a shrew beats 800 times a minute, considerably faster than that of the hummingbird. Shrews must eat 80-90 % of their own body weight in food daily. Most will starve to death if deprived of food for half a day. Web source:Quara.com

An excellent photo of this shrew, that complements your poem very well. I think I saw them on television very recently. They look nice, and eat all the way every day-from morn till night. If they would not do this they'd starve.

LOL. You should have entered this in the limerick contest.
If he's not careful, he'll outgrow his nest. I like the play on words.

Very sneaky and effective rhyme scheme. I love it Bill and thanks for being a fan its an honor. So from reading both 9 & 10 is it safe to assume that there are 8 more? I love the little humor bites. It seems that little rident was greedy and never had enough to eat. Great little story.

This is a clever Limerick about your beloved shrews, eat and not quit! That's rodents for you, they have eaten through the telephone lines in my street and cut everybody off! No joke! Great work, love Dolly x
