Jeezum Crowe!!! I almost missed this beautiful poem!!! I am so far behind, and I must apologize sincerely because this is SO worthy of a six, yet to rate it so now would not do it any good - it's so late, it won't promote it! I simply have to do better! But rest assured, IMHO it is MOST outstanding - it SINGS!

This is a wonderfully written poem, my friend. I haven't read much written by him since I had no education in poetry. He looks like a good one to read more from. Your poem is lovely~~Debbie

I should be commenting on YOUR poem
(which is wonderfully crafted and reflects
your reverence for Emerson as a poet/essayist
by way of rhymed tetrameter), but

I simply have to comment (or more accurately
applaud) on your choice of "To Laugh Often And Much"
as an example of his poetry transcendentalist approach
to poetry. It was this poem that first made me aware
of his ability to write in such a way as to totally hold
my attention . . . and to do so without bowing to the
conventions of meter and rhyme scheme. Prior to reading
this poem, I had pretty much lumped him into the "guys
the teacher makes us read, but that bore me with what (at
the time) I thought of as manipulative in their construction.
(I was at the time a rabid aficionado of e.e. cummings).
Coming across this poem probably marked the first time
I accepted that the "masters" had more to say than I was
hearing - and it lead me to a much more "open arms" policy
in regards to learning more about the revered ones.

Great submission Kim :-)

Very good work, Kim. You have a talent for distilling the essence of others and reproducing it in tribute form in your own work.

I especially like this:

The poet is but half a man,
who, through expression becomes whole.

I have a question, which you might be able to answer. I've noticed more people seem to be posting their poems as images (at least I think that is what they are doing, because it's impossible to highlight and copy text in them). Is this an attempt to stop people copying (I can't imagine people would do that), or is it to allow formatting that isn't allowed by the FS editor?

I know that there are times (this is one such) where I would like to comment on several parts of a poem, but it's too tedious to have to scroll back and forward over and over since I can't see the poem's text at the same time as the comment box.

Anyway, I'm not trying to tell you how to post your poems, I'm just curious as to the reason.

A strong work, very nicely done.

Craig

    Hi Craig,

Actually no, that comes from using a black background. You can still highlight and copy and then past into the review box. Sometimes you can't tell that it is copying, but If you trust that it is and go up and paste, it will work. Now, if you look at say, the Palindrome posts from Gloria, where the image and poem are together, that is something she created for artistic effect on her computer.

Mine isn't that way, you can copy and paste. :) But, yes, I think you get them impression you can't because of the editor. I'd love to hear the other comments :)

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Ah, ok. Well, thank you for letting me know that. See, you are good for my education ;-) I'll keep that in mind in future. It's odd that it looks like it's not working.

Kim,
This is an awesome presentation. The picture is beautiful. Your words flow smoothly and have many good uses of alliteration. The rhyme is super, too.

I can see you took to heart Emerson's method of delivering his message. I really liked the way your words resonated in his style.

Good job an thanks for sharing. Love the author notes, too. Jan

This has been an inspirational post for me today. I'm sorry to be out of sixes. You introduced me to a poet I had not heard of before. Your poem is truly lovely and I see a talent in you that has grown with this NaPoWriMo 2016 challenge. The poems you included in your aithor notes spoke to me today and tunes in to my thoughts and concerns. My mom is 88 and is slowly going blind. Your post today comforts me to some extent. Sorry to ramble on.

I catch myself wishing you had adopted Emmerson's rhyme scheme from "I the Poet". Though many have gone from a bulk of alternate or othe schemes to finish on a couplet, to write the bulk in couplets and finish oh on the alternate is far less common and therefore interesting, whatever the content.

    Hi Pantygynt:

He wrote in varied rhyme schemes, but you are right, that would have made it interesting... in fact, I looked, the first three stanzas could quite easily be switched up, but the other four, not so easily lol thus, I'll be boring and offer you an alternate ending in couplets, and make a mental note to write one for you in the other direction soon :)

?tis woman who will truly see,
    the beauty in her rivalry,
as men, distracted, rise and stand
and bow to kiss her waiting hand.

You always give me such interesting thoughts to ponder. I hope you enjoyed this one as much as I enjoyed writing.

This is very nicely composed, Kim. I have enjoyed how you have featured and written in the style of different poets throughout the 30 days. RWE was born not too far from my hometown in Massachusetts. Lines that really stuck out for me are:
"the poet is but half a man,
who, through expression, becomes whole."

    Hi Marilyn,

Thank you for the lovely review. I adapted that line from a comment RWE had made in his Essay I The Poet, which was rather long, but an interesting read. I love it that we can find inspiration from anywhere, don't you? :) I appreciate all of your kind comments.
