Hello Dovey, I finally took your poem out of bookmark. You did a fantastic job, and thank you for the most helpful author's notes. I especially liked:
This land where ice blue glaciers flow,
Auroras dance in stunning show,
Where mountains tower, straight and tall,
Forget-me-nots did bloom and grow.
(Wonderful imagery - ice blue glaciers - and I particularly liked, "Forget-me-nots did bloom and grow.)
Dovey, A forget-me-not is my FS icon which somehow was removed from my profile, but now I shall have to upload it again.
Beautiful complementary artwork choice. Excellent writing. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

Well damn... who can argue with this? lol

The wild will howl so heed its call,
As mercury begins to fall,
Alaska simply has it all,
Alaska simply has it all.
I certainly can't.... and Frost? Yeah, one of my favs. ;)
well done, Kim. i'm going to have to stop reading you today, sorry. LOL

Hi Cat,
You can't stop reading... you haven't made it to the Sestina yet! lol Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. You requested more 'Alaska,' and who am I to say no? I could write about living here all day long, but hey, then everyone would think I was just bragging about how beautiful it is ;) I know that you already know, because you lived up here. I wouldn't trade it for the world, even the winters. Frost is one of my all time favorites :)
I appreciate the six shiny stars and exceptional review!
*Hugs*

This is a wonderful tribute to both Frost and Alaska.
I loved the style in which it was written (meticulously metered
and rhymed) and the visions it painted in my mind.
Fresh footprints in new fallen snow,
Will follow creek to gold-filled sluice.
s i g h - beautiful!

I think mainland Alaska is a fascinating wintry place I might like to visit.
The islands, out there where the arctic cold meets the Japanese Current,
is what I spent a year on. Less than delightful...I admire Frost, stuff like Out,out and Death of the Hired Man and Design...excellent post you've done.

Hi LIJ:
I am so happy that you've enjoyed my poem. If you make it to the Interior of Alaska, I absolutely love our Veteran's Memorial, which is within 2 miles of the best view of Denali from the Parks Highway. It is a must :) There is a fabulous place to camp right there in the same vicinity, called Byer's Lake. I think you would love it. :)
Thank you for taking the time to read and comment.

I love your description of a frosty night, Kim! Wolves howling, auroras, frozen spruce, footprints in the snow ... all so vivid! Your spruce/sluice rhyme was very original, and I like how you worked that into your write. Excellent rhyming and great flow. The repeat of the last two lines is an effective technique in driving home your message that "Alaska simply has it all".
A very lovely, well written poem! Well done!

One of friends is moving to Alaska. I have heard that it is one of the most beautiful places in the world. I so would love to see it. Thank you for letting me see it through your words.

Hi Jusylee,
I highly recommend that everyone try to take a trip to Alaska at least once in their lifetime. It is my privilige and pleasure to have lived here virtually all my life (we moved here when I was a toddler) and I wouldn't trade the experience for the world. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment.

You will have to get the Alaska Tourist Board to take this up. You make it sound really inviting but what about Sarah Palin? I've almost forgotten what snow looks like. None again this year, that's the second year running. No wonder we don't do well in the winter olympics - no chance to practice. In the meantime your poem will have to do. It certainly makes one feel right in the middle of it all. I can almost hear the wolves.

Hi Pantygynt,
Thank you for the huge compliments. What about Sarah Palin? lol She's out of the state politicking about as much as she's in the state, from what I can tell. And, she isn't from Fairbanks ;) Shall I box you up a bit of snow? I still have some in the yard. Anchorage had almost no snow all winter (strange year) and then last weekend got dumped on with several inches lol Unpredictable here, it is best to be prepared for anything.
Fairbanks is home and I'd never want to trade my Alaskan experiences for anything in the world. :)
Thank you for the grand review.

Frost's poem is one of my all time favorites for the atmosphere it creates. Your poem using the same structure also creates a little of the same magic. The close contrast of 'alive in dead of night' draws your reader in right from the start and the evident love you have for Alaska is transparent. I linked that line near the end: "The wild will howl so heed their call", but think that you either need 'wilds' or 'its' - I'm not sure which!

Hi Tony,
Thank you for your thought provoking comments on my poem. I like your suggestion for the "wild" line and might look at its as the possiblity, I like how that sounds. Thank you for taking the time to read and review. I appreciate all of your thoughts.

great for these words written
It is amazing how night time

comes alive.
