Comment from Dean Kuch
This is a lovely, well composed sonnet on love and commitment gone sour, Anonymous Poet. The rhyming is very good, and you have presented this in the traditional Shakespearean or English sonnet form.
Material things and possessions are just that, things. They matter very little to us as we're about to breathe or last breath. A house is made up of mortar, brick, stone and wood--and empty husk, or shell if you prefer, until the love of a family is added to the mix. That's what is required to make a house a home.
Nicely done. I wish you the best of luck in the contest.

Thanks very much, Dean. You're quite correct, of course. Material possessions count for little in the end, as we can't take them with us. Your thoughtful review is much appreciated, as are the good wishes.

I love the simplicity of this powerful message which you wove into a poem. The wonderful meter and well chosen rhymes made this a joy to read. Hugs, Lou

What an excellent sonnet this is! I like how each stanza grows a subject from small to large. The rhythm and flow are beautiful and the story line you have included is an extra benefit!

Thank you so much for the wonderfully kind words, and the 6 stars! Thanks for creating the contest, too. It's an engaging theme, and there are a diverse set of entries, which is always good to see. Much appreciated :)

This is a lovely poem, comparing all the different things that start small and grows. It has a song like meter and I can imagine it sang to guitar in a soulful rhythm. The last two line are sad, suggesting that a relationship ended.

Thank for this lovely poem that speaks all things that have a beginning form some other source. I love the form and the language that you use to tell your sweet story.
Good luck in the contest.

In this well-composed sonnet, you've reminded the reader of several things that 'grow' with time. Nice! I think it should do well in the contest!

This was a very, very deep poem. I love works that make me think and leave me with something... Your work certainly did that. I loved the line
"You simply can't grow love by sowing hate"
I totally agree with this, I cant wait to read more of your work!!!

Usually a sonnet celebrates love but in this case the sonnet describes a love that has ended because of hatred and discord. The quatrains set up the fact that there is a relationship and the third quatrain prepares the reader for the couplet that describes the emotional end. Not all poems have positive conclusions just like not all relationships stay positive. Sad, but well written.
