Congratulations on winning the contest and for this heartwarming little story. I'm even happier that it's a true story. Fantastic. Marilyn/BeasPeas

So glad you wrote this story! The author notes add to the 'feel good' aura of this tale - makes it authentic.

What a touching, heart-felt little
story, pulling at my heartstrings, Brett.

I can understand there not being a dry eye then.

This is an excellent and uplifting story, Brett, and what a great thing everyone did for Ryan and his dad on his homecoming. That is a memory that will stay with the both of them for a lifetime, I'm sure. Probably everyone else who was there in attendance as well.

Great job, and good luck in the contest!

Yes, this is definitely a wonderful moment. One I am sure you would have enjoyed experiencing firsthand. Come Saturday morning I knew I had to write this one. I wanted to enter it into the Surprise contest, but because I had already posted 2 things that day could not. So, I created my own contest, which I happened to be fortunate enough to win. Ryan's parents and I are fairly close. Wanted to enter your little Horror contest you created, but saw your name on it as the originator, and said not me. That is your department my friend. I just dabble in it a little bit. Also liked your little poem where the flowers were being planted on top of the buried heads.

You're welcome, Brett. But hey, don't let seeing my name ever stop you from entering a contest. I'm nobody special. I'm not invincible either when it comes to getting my ass handed to me in contests, Have you checked the current totals?

    Case closed... :)

Such a sweet story. The love a child has for their parents is amazing. They look at the father as their hero. You depicted that emotion in your story. Well done.

Ryan and his Daddy are very close. Hopefully his Father will not be deployed again any time soon and they can share some quality time together. Appreciate your comments and support.

Considering the mess in Afghanistan, this should fit the prompt as a war story and it is a fine yarn, and probably made for a heckova homecoming. An excellent post.

That's a beautiful story. What a happy day for this little boy and his daddy.
Very nicely written. War can certainly be hard on families. my nephew was shipped overseas when he learned his wife was pregnant with their third child. He didn't see her until she was 6 months old. At least not in person. :>) Miss Sally

Thanks for your comments and support. Appreciate them very much. It is these special reunions that some times make soldiers coming back feel all the more better about the fact they lose out on so many other things in life.

What a lovely true story this is.
You took me right to the baseball stadium to watch the pitch and then the wonderful surprise when Ryan saw his father was the catcher.

Well done.
Best of luck in the contest.

This meets the contest requirements splendidly. This is a stunning use of the words allotted and how wonderful to be reunited after three tours of duty in a truly hazardous location. I wish you all the best in the voting and thank you very much for sharing it.
