I should never read your work so late at night, Dean. Now I'll be up for a while. That last line clenched the deal. You have an excellent narrative voice. The story starts out so unthreatening, but the you know how to turn the ordinary elements into a chilling scene.

I'll start with that I love the intro. so creepy. I'll follow it with the last line is completely chilling. And I'll end it with....is there going to be more? I want more.

I've been considering it, Elynn, but this was really intended as a stand alone flash fiction story.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read it and offer your opinions. I appreciate that. ~Dean

The music didn't play, Deano.
Still, a suicide is often dramatic reading, even without music. '' Don't fear the reaper'' by Blue Oyster cult is one of my favorite tracks, and what many do not know, it surrounds the area of suicide though to listen to it could seem otherwise.
Best wishes.
By the way, congratulations on your POM win, I have been off site a little.

G'day Dean. Great to see my grin got a mention in one of your fantastic stories mate LOL. This is another piece of horror art in the form of a story and as always I enjoyed it. Suicide is a hard one to deal with on so many levels for so many people, ahhhh, love! Is it worth it? Cheers Fez

Thanks, Fez, I appreciate your comments, mate. No, nothing is worth taking your own life for, not even love. Of course, that's just my opinion.
Much obliged. :} ~Dean

Hey, Dean,
Sheezzzz, as I read this the sun is just beginning to filter through my kitchen windows; talk about setting up the story nicely, hee, hee.
It feels like coming into a life-story right at the very end; leaving the reader's imagination to determine the problems in this child's life, that led to this decision.
You certainly had the perfect background music for this eerie piece of work...nice!
Another great addition to the book, Dean.
Have a great day, Bill

A horrible suicide when his girlfriend left him through the note. He is dead or was that how he died--suicide or murder? What is he waiting or is it the monster with him that's waiting. Excellent story that poses questions which is as it should be. Well done, Dean.

Yep, he'd decided that life was no longer worth living since his gal left him, Rod. And the form hovering over Johnny's corpse is none other than the dark man himself, the Grim Reaper, come to claim his soul. Poor Johnny... but worse than that, poor mom.
Thanks for your review. :} ~Dean

Something's missing when people commit suicide. There is a void in the lives of people who have nothing higher to hope in to depend on or to trust hence the reason they give up and get out
It is important to have your children know that you are there for them in every way so if even if they have not been taught to trust in God they can depend on and turn to you in trying times

I agree completely, Erica. There is nothing nor anyone on the face of this earth worth taking your life over. Even in the darkest times when we feel we have no one, God is there for us if we need Him. My own children have been taught this from a very early age and are completely aware of the bible's teachings against suicide.
Thank you very much for voicing your opinions on this, and have a glorious Easter / resurrection Sunday.

Such a great feeling to meet people who have taught their children well. My mother did and I have followed in her footsteps. I know you have done likewise and that is good to know

Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young said it best, I think, in a song once called "Teach Your Children"...
"Teach
your children well
their father's hell did slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams, the one they fix, the one you'll know by.
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you would cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you." ;}

Another great one, Dean. I was thinking last night about the bats in my attic which occasionally sneak don for a visit. I bet you could make that into something creepy. Take care, my friend~Debbie

A sad story this one Dean, suicide. Mum's final message to a son already gone and a great ending as the reaper waits, patiently. Good ending line....No one sings along.
This is a great series of little reads.

This was just like opening the curtain on a stage play. The imagery was so solid, it left little to the imagination. The inclusion of the song types woven into what was taking place was very effective.
