Well done, sad but informative. Your presentation is very attractive and the way you express yourself about the near extinction of the buffalo is deeply felt, I can tell.

I feel this is a very strong contest entry. So far as this "prose-only" writer can tell, the contest conditions are admirably met. Of more interest to me than poetry mechanics are the images stirred by this work. It's an even-money bet whether the first bovines I ever saw were cattle or buffalo. Both were ranched when and where I grew up.

The image of huge herds "plodding" across the plain rings so true. "Bleak bison sunset" is stunning in its simplicity and heartbreaking in its truth.

Thank you for the enjoyment.

This is a well put together haiku about the buffaloes being extinct. It very nice how you fitted a poem to the pictures and as you said "majestic mountains ...." All this as well as the animals are something to behold.

The word, "bleak" tells it all.

Good luck in the contest.

I think you have chosen a great picture to enhance your poem. Also the last line has a nice double meaning to me which I enjoyed.
