Although this is a sad topic, you've got some great imagery in this poem. I like the comparison between their eyes and twinkling, shining eyes. Vultures is an excellent metaphor for betraying friends.
I think it was a smart choice to put "But they went into darkness" on its own line, since it seperates the poem like friends will seperate when one betrays another.

People change and there is nothing worse than betrayal by close friend and/or family.It cuts to the core of our being, and something in us dies forever.

Well written and the emotions is all there.
