I think they can feel us. This is a perfect poem for Memorial Day and Mother's Day. Sadly my Mom has been gone several years now and I'll miss her on both days.

A wonderfully subtle representation of this touching festival.
Your tone is gentle as are the colours, green, white, gold because even the "flowered splashes" are spread over the layered and evocative metaphor, "acres of memory".
I absolutely loved your "summer-come-early afternoon" which is resonant with one of those occasions we always treasure and look back on with fondness.
The last two lines so clearly show how our mothers are always with us. - Beautiful!

Hi, am trying to keep too many balls in the air at the moment but have been keeping up with the Wife's Diary, so far. Next instalment due in a few days. I really miss the site but sometimes there are other pressures although things are improving now lambing has finished. Talk to you soon, Andrea

That is a lovely poem, tribute to mothers, still here and long gone. We will always remember the love and caring they share and shared with us. I think you wrote this beautifully, Sharyn, it was a real pleasure to read. xsx Sandra

Hi Sharyn,
just a superb write with the warm, beauty and reflectiveness they made this poem fly. A beautiful way to share your heart on this most important day. I loved your questions they did linger in the air of thought. Truly beautiful.
Kindest thoughts,
James xx

I believe they can and also know we have come to visit. Lovely poem that flows smoothly and speaks from the heart. Very nice work with this one.

This is a very interesting angle to approach a mother's day poem, Sharyn, and I love the pondering of your final lines which truly make the piece special. Is it mother's day where you are? I'm hoping the UK has a different date, otherwise the kids missed it!
Kindest of regards,
Julie :-)

yes, U.S. has a different Mother's Day Julie - when is it in the UK?
-
We had ours at the beginning of March, I think. If I remember rightly, the kids treated me to a McDonalds!!! :-)
-
Well Kai, my 16-year-old, borrowed $10 from a friend (who told him he had to be able to whack him in the jaw with new boxing gloves), went to the local grocery store, and bought me a lei of carnations & tuberose (which I love because of its heavy perfume) - but I suspect my husband may have given him a not-very-subtle you-better-or-else reminder from where he is in L.A. at the moment! :))) McDlt? oh God - I'd commit suicide!
-
ha ha - I think my husband also gave the kids a not-very-subtle-you-better-or-else reminder too! That's why we ended up in McDonalds! LMAO. Thank god I love a toffee sundae!! Have a lovely mother's day :-)

you know what mother's day is all about? " young ones oblivious in sunlight", carrying on with the art of motherhood. nice contrast. and the closing lines, the progression from " do they love the trees?" - what we can understand and observe- to " and can they hear them breathe?"- what we can only wonder and apprehend. the cycle of life to death very elegantly related by the hand of a pro.

You've caught the subtleties rb - that's what I always appreciate about you! :)S
-
it's what separates the poets from the dabblers. you have it too.
-
yep - mutual pats on back - there are a few who make it worthwhile, hmm?
-
few and far between.
-
agreed! slim pickin's especially in poetry - better in prose - and almost non existent in scripts

That was a wonderful poem dedicated to all those mums, grandmothers and nannies that have passed away and I'm sure they feel us as we feel them.
