Always put your best foot forward indeed.
A clever and striking image which complements the poem well.
I like the continuity and focus of the poem.

As one who has reached the ancient stage, I appreciate the advice Tom. In your notses on pronunciation you failed to mention that a Scotsman would rhyme boot foot and root without blinking ane eye (pronounced ee!)

Gorgeous tree...
and yeah, some people have tangled feet. lol
Even STeven Tyler admits his feet are horrendous.
Supposedly they look like shit... too many years dancing and being on them.
nice wording. Love the photo

Oddly, I pronounce "root" like a Brit--nevertheless, thanks for sharing this fascinating animated still both in your photograph and your poem. I enjoyed your rhymes and your good advice. More cheers- Joan

Maybe so, and possibly a composite of having been born in Brooklyn and having lived in California for most of my life. Cheerio! -Joan

I had a chuckle over the foot/root thing, I wonder why we pronounce it that way, I hadn't thought of it before you mentioned it. It does make your poem rhyme better! lol! I missed this one the first time round, Tom. I love that tree, it's gorgeous! I can quite understand you wanting to write a poem for it, and you did a good job on it, too! :) Sandra x

A true observation, the older we get the more obstacles we have to overcome and we have to show off and keep on putting the best foot forward at all times.

Treischel: amazing photo of the ancient tree. Think of all the people and stories this tree could tell us. Maybe, it lived by a stream. Did it survive the droughts and overflows? Life is like this tree believing in the best foot forward! Great advise!

Thank you flylikeaneagle. Actually, that tree is still alive and living along the Mississippi. That's just the roots.

I like this poem going along with this picture - such a great metaphor of our lives but we always need to keep moving forward in the best way we can.
