Your writing is amazing. I felt each verse individually but it also works together as a whole. As a mother I most identified with the first verse, and I especially love the part where you wrote:

though that child may grow up
and flee the safety net of protection,
that gossamer thread of connection
always runs, implanted deep, from heart to heart
no matter what
till death do part.

Exquisitely beautiful. Well done.

Some very nice thoughts here. Poems of love can never be exhausted. I like the three ways you look at the subject; a mom, a lover, and spiritually, (for me that would be God).
Nicely done.

A very interesting take on 3 types of love. I can't recall having seen anything like this before. Quite nicely done. The picture and your color choices work so well.

Love this so much, visionary. You use such wonderful words in describing the three faces of love. The love of a mother for her child is everlasting. You have a great line with "gossamer thread of connection." The mother offers that safety net of protection. The romantic love you describe is a two-way street, inspiring trust and adoration. "The whole world becomes part of our aura" is a great line. The third face is that of a love for all, a love for humanity that is transcendent. Very beautifully expressed, and I'm glad I have a six-star rating left. judiverse

Hi, Sharyn. You're welcome. I agree that sometimes those "off the cuff" pieces come off really heartfelt. judiverse

Like the way you describe the three elements of love, that of the protector, the partner and the awe inspired pulse of a universal love.

The free verse style allowed the time and expressive thoughts to gel on their own and harmnize in the last verse.

Hi there! I love free verse when it is written well, as this poem most definitely is. You have employed multiple poetic devices like alliteration, consonance and very subtle rhyme, without putting this poem into any category of formal meter or rhyme. More than that, you have defined Love beautifully. Best of luck in the contest. Sue

Visonary, A good description of three kinds of love. I think you put them in the right order too, with Universal love being the last found, if found. The first may be the most elemental and very strong, then the person widens. Oops. Some would say that romantic love should precede the mother-love. Uh-0h. Just kidding! The words and intensity of your feelings show in the poem. I like the way you progress through these three loves. Changeisgood

I'll certainly have to agree with just about everything you say. If we did truly love everyone the way we are capable, there would be little room for hatred of others, as strange or unlike us as they might be. Well written. Ray.

Absolutely beautiful and right on the money so to speak. It precisely describes in-depth the three types of love. I don't know if it could have been put together in words any better by even God himself. Most people don't comprehend love in that depth, yet you have explained it superbly. In case you couldn't tell, I am very taken with this poem. :) Thank you for sharing it.
