hi jan, congrats on this win! so glad to see it was yours. a very deserving piece and delivered with strong verses that touched the readers. it happens to most of us i guess. aren't we lucky to be able to put all that into writings?

Comment from Galactia
excellent poem and congratulations on the win.
favourite stanza's are....
these late night visitors
meandering down my cheeks
as gently as a silent underground stream
barely noticeable
yet cutting swaths through mountains
eroding foundations
creating sinkholes -
and....
cutting lines through my soul
eroding my foundation
sinking my confidence
damned weather service
what happened to the warning system
great job
Regards
Tia

Hi, Jan! Congratulations on winning this contest! And why not? This is a wonderful, cleverly constructed piece of work. I'm sorry I didn't see it sooner. Thanks for sharing. Bob
(PS...LOL...I have a new chapter up in case you missed it...)

I know that feeling when the muses rouse you in the early morning.
I like the flw and the feeling here,
Great image,imagery,and metaphor.
Lots to think about about and ponder.
Many will relate to this one.

Jan, this is SUPERB throughout from excellent use of simile to personification to your final touch of humor at the end. Of course you won!! BRAVO my friend, BRAVO. (I was travelling over New Year's weekend, which explains why I missed this until now)

Great poem! No wonder it won the contest.
Superb simile and metaphor, contemplating all the characteristics of water, the contrast between its blessings and threats, and then personifying it.
I also liked the concluding lines, with their touch of humour, and the sense of you rallying yourself to recover your good spirits.
Lovely writing, and well done on the win!

Congratulations on your contest win. I can see why you won. I like the double meaning in your poetry. It can be interpreted in at least two different ways if not more.
Thank you for an example of excellent work.

Congratulations on winning the contet. A superb write that was well worthy of winning. Nothing I can add that's not already been said several times except I enjoyed your poem very much, Buck

Congratulations on winning the Free Verse contest with this fine entry!
What a powerful opening-(strong simile and well phrased)
here they come again
obliterating perspective
as quickly as tsunamis
change landscapes
these late night visitors
meandering down my cheeks
as gently as a silent underground stream--WONDERFUL SIMILE!
barely noticeable
yet cutting swaths through mountains
eroding foundations
creating sinkholes -
The cohesive fusion of different imagery in extended simile is very well achieved--I think it works powerfully in this poem, and especially above. Bravo.
water so refreshing to the taste
yet notorious in its ability
to create disaster
Love that--insightful dichotomy
here they come again
not as long lost friends
rather as unnamed ghosts
reawakened by who knows what
--great phrasing in above stanza. Superb.
cutting lines through my soul
eroding my foundation
sinking my confidence
Good......
And good closing with a startling shift in tone-
damned weather service
what happened to the warning system
Bravo and kudos on your win!
Warmly, rd
