Barbara, this beautiful tribute to Codi tugs at the heart. Anyone who owns that special pet, then loses him/her, can relate to your bittersweet read.
Congratulations on the #5 ranking.
Well-deserved.
Merry Christmas,
Cindy

*barbara. If I were to change anything, it would be a clarification in the second to last paragraph(' than "with" the boys'' would make it clearer. the boys would rather have wanted to travel with Cody, it sounds like. (This is just for future reference, Barbara. You earned a number 5 spot, and your story deserves its kudos.

I've always had beagles. They are lovable and fun but not in the top half of the class. But I love them. I understand what it's like to see the dog that grew up with your kids pass on. This was beautifully written. Gretchen

Aw, Codi sound like the perfect dog and companion. I don't know, but I find it so apt that you still have her ashes. She's there with you. That's what I will do with Tasha when her time comes. Tasha, being the best dog I've ever had. I loved reading this, Barbara. Ulla xcx

Adh. This is a beautiful story about your dog. The story is interesting and well written. I've had dogs throughout my marriage. The best one was Brandy. She lived to 14. She was great. I enjoyed reading the story.

Wow, you edit and polish a lot, and I comment you for all the hard work you put into your writing. I guess, I should be ashamed. I write really fast, and might read through my writing once, but my brain has learned to read right through my mistakes. LOL. As you've noticed. I'm sure that Codi will be in Heaven waiting for you when you get there. And what a joyous day that will be. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for understanding. I need to edit a lot because I also read as if it should be not what it actually is.

I think it's a great essay that shows how many ways a dog can fit into a family's life, and it reminded me of the dogs we had when I was a kid. Dogs are really a part of the family. In your story, they even helped your sons introduce themselves to girls. estory

Barbara,

What a great story story about Codi. Dogs are the best and they never judge or disappoint. This story is well organized and well written. I found no errors. Keep writing about those sweet dogs.

Well done my friend

Cecilia

That is so funny...he got you a cat so that you wouldn't get a dog! I also find it humorous that you "got the boys a dog." Right:-)

"Though so." - Change to "Thought so."

"I couldn't bury an 850lb dog on some else's property." - "someone else's property."

Codi was an "Army dog" - she went wherever she was told to go. What a trooper.

It was this time last year we had to put our cat, Smokey, to sleep. My husband held him as he took his last breath, and Jim cried like a baby all day. It's a terrible thing to lose a pet, but we talk of him often and the cute little things he did.

Thanks for sharing, Barbara. This was so sweet.

Thank you for the catches. I have made the corrections. I appreciate the help. Yes, Codi was special. I'm sorry to hear about Smokey. They do become special.
