That was profound and simple, the secret of contentment hidden in plain sight. Everything is relative. "Enough" equals balance of personal expectations and reality: With what you have, who you are, what you have accomplished. I think there is always a tension, an unevenness in life trying to achieve that sweet spot. Well written and thoughtful. Esther

Thanks for the six stars and the awesome review. The secret of contentment hidden in plain sight is a wonderful way to put this mantra.
Agreed there is tension between expectations and that sweet spot.
This was to encourage readers to ponder and you have accomplished this in spades.
Thanks, Esther, for the kind and thoughtful words.
    Relax and enjoy the weekend.

Being content with enough is a great concept, and one I applaud vigorously. However, most people want more and more.
    Thanks for your positive reinforcement.

This is a thoughtful and positive post. I enjoyed reading it because it is good know that you are actually Thankful for what you have and aren't complaining over your lot in life. After reading so many people's stories I'm satisfied with my own lot in life. The material possessions one may have has almost nothing to do with happiness. Unfortunately, those with more feel that it never enough.

I agree, Beth. Material possessions one has make no difference when it comes to happiness. Many think they can never have enough.
I'm glad you are satisfied with your lot in life. I am satisfied too.
It feels good to know you enjoy the positivity of this post.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

I love your poem and commentary on being enough. When we get down to it we are One. We all want to stand out ... be unique...be the best and create a sense of separation. If more people shared your wisdom it would be a happier world.

Thanks, my friend. Yes, we would all be happier if we accepted what we are and what we have is enough.
Consumption is the American dream. Consume more and profit more from it. We can still be unique and still accept that we are enough.
    Thanks for the Gypsy hugs!

To have and to own is what many people desire, Jesse. Still, you are correct in saying that enough is enough. Yet, greed it green and the dollar bill everyone in the world wants. They should search the treasures that heaven offers. Thank you for sharing.

Hello Jesse,
An excellent post on the topic of "enough." Equality is at the heart of the answer. Sadly, there are always some who want more. Enough is never enough.
It seems odd that those with the most are often those the least satisfied. Perhaps it is a question of what they have, not how much. There's an old song lyric, "it's so hard to find one rich man in a hundred with a satisfied mind."
It all depends upon what one considers "rich."
Greed or need.
Well said my friend.
Best wishes.
Robert

    Hello Robert.
Whether rich, middle class or poor, many never have enough. This seems to be a part of the American dream. I agree that either greed or need drives us to desire more than we can afford.
There isn't an easy answer, other than having acceptance of what we have.
Thanks for a truly intelligent discussion on this topic.
    Take care, my friend.
Thanks for the six star by the way.
    You have made my day.

Very good commentary, Jesse. I like your approach to it and bringing in the "Animal Farm" reference. A very good opening verse. Then, you ask very good questions about how we know if we do have enough. You do a good job discussing equality and how maybe we already have enough. A very good, strong point at the end. Thanks for sharing it, and have a great Thanksgiving.

Very interesting poem. BUT, I am of the opposite opinion. I believe a person, can never have "enough". To enjoy life is to push oneself past their accepted norms. Whether it be, cooking, working out, reading, art, or all the tasks associated with work and making a living, one should never accept "enough". I believe that one should always be hungry, and thirsty for more. Always searching, looking for something new, or something better. How else would society have computers, cell phones, the polio vaccine, etc. Sorry, not much of a review. If the intent of your poem was to inspire dialogue, then you have achieved your goal.

All of lifes experiences are fleeting, emotions wants and needs constantly changing, as we reach out to grab one, it changes grows or has been entirely erased before we achieve it. Making it nearly impossible to find true and lasting happiness, unless you were to believe that you already are truly happy as is.
