We'll have fun on your adventure. Walkabout is a good way to describe it. You observe and partake of your surroundings. I loved Arizona, especially Sedona and The Grand Canyon. Do not miss either one! Take care and have fun!

We lived in Wickenburg near Suprise for 2 years, traveled far and wide on our Harley. So much fun. Jerome is one of my favorite places. Sedona is beautiful but more touristy.

Your plans sound deliciously adventurous. When my sister got married, her and her husband hopped on a motorcycle, headed for the highway with no final destination, and enjoyed a week long adventure.
Years ago, my husband and I took a train to Canada, rented a car, and let the adventures begin. I know you will have great fun. I live in Florida, where many snowbirds come to spend the winter.
I wish you lots of sunshine, a smooth road trip, and loads of fun.

Thanks so much.

This sounds amazing Esther. I am very envious. I don't cope well with travel or being away from my familiar environment but I hope some day that changes for me. Thank you for sharing and wishing you and your companions a wonderful adventure. Your dog is the image of my very first dog who landed on my door step on my very first Christmas eve. She was a stray and we named her Lucky. We had her for 16 years. We moved to Milan when I was 11 and we brought her with us. She was well travelled.
Safe travels,
Amelie

I have never been good at roots....which I guess is the flip side. Our Daisy is rather overfed and spoiled, but we love her.

Hello Esther,
part of me certainly envies you. Perhaps if we had an RV we'd do the same, at least for a little while. The snow and cold get old after awhile, but I kind of like the idea of being around to take care of any problems that might arise with the house. Being in an area with extreme weather, leaving for an extended period of time probably isn't an option for me. I can feel the excitement as you write. I hope you'll be posting while you're gone. Stay safe, drive carefully and enjoy every minute gal.
Blessings,
Tom

I will try to share my adventures. Sunshine is good for my soul.

That sounds amazing. A walkabout. I would just call it a road trip, but it is the same. My pastor just came back from Africa a few weeks ago. I'll never go. I want to go on a mission somewhere, just not Africa. Maybe I'll go to Paris. They need God there too, right?

There is an international group that does short term missions. I can put you in touch with someone if you like? Esther

I have two more years before I can go, but the information can always help.

Being from Arizona (a little town named Payson, near the Mogollon Rim)
I can testify to the magic of that area. Enjoy. I have moved, but part of me is still there

I know Payson. We lived in Wickenburg for a couple of years in an RV.

Oh that sounds like absolute perfection! just going where the day takes you and having no set plans or destination. Your home on wheels. Enjoy your time in the sun and write us about your adventures!

Have a safe trip and enjoy your time away! Thanks for letting me know. I was going to ask you where you have been. I have been listening to your brother's book and I perk up when he mentions his sister Esther!

I am reading his book also (out loud to Gary when we drive). All the technical stuff about the dam building pains my brain but Gary loves it.
-
I enjoyed reading about the chemistry class explosions! But honestly, the whole looking for a girlfriend and personal early chapters were boring. What I really love is the sharing of life in Africa in the post colonial times. It would help to have a few paragraphs about what Belgium did and how it was overturned etc etc. We don't know that stuff in the US.
-
I am still plowing through the building of the dam. Knowing my brother still doesn't help me plough through the GF stuff either. I was in Congo from 1953 through Independence in 1960 and Simba Rebellion (1963). Mubutu and the devaluation of the money also happened during my time there as an adult. My Ex was a bush pilot, then later we returned and he was a captain for Kenya Airways during Moi's reign. My brother was a missionary all his life.
-
It's amazing that you both stayed in the faith. I know MKs who resented their parents' missions and left the faith. Thanks for the brief mention of the history. I looked up the wiki page on Congo-DRC-Zaire. I cried when I learned of the death of 5.4 million people. I cannot even fathom the grief...
-
Try looking up Simba Rebellion, Hector McMillian and Kinshasa. My classmate's dad was Hector. There were some mercenaries who rescued some of the missionary families at the behest of American efforts. One little girl sat on the gunner's lap. She actually had the chance to meet the man who saved her. My classmate Steve McMillian told us the story at our last reunion.

Paul followed God from his youth. He is a lot older than I am and grew up in a different time. He was an adult teaching at the boarding schools I went to. He is in his eighties now.

This is a good clarification: "Walkabout means we have a loosely planned trip: a possible route, probable destination, with an indefinite return. We will be back when my flowers are blooming, or when we run out of money. If we find a great spot, we stay a bit. No such thing as being lost. Our best treasures are off the beaten path: pioneer graveyards, museums, ghost towns, and unexpected beauty we don't have to share with other tourists." good resolution for the ending: " Our best treasures are off the beaten path: pioneer graveyards, museums, ghost towns, and unexpected beauty we don't have to share with other tourists. "
