Hi Jesse,
All I have to say is I commiserate with you and your family about the recent election results. I pray that you have successful knee surgery and are able to walk unaided soon after that. We all do need to have hope. The song you mentioned is on my Spotify play list.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a nice day.

Thanks, Joan, for your supportive and encouraging review. That is a beautiful song. I love the songs from that era where peace and hope were alive.
I will most definitely walk again. How soon, is anyone's guess?
    Thanks for stopping by.
    Enjoy the day.

Why did you not run for President? Then again, sadly, presenting the idea of a unified nation didn't work well for Kamala Harris. I truly believed that love and unity would triumph of hate and division, but more than half my country let me down.

Thank you for putting this is terms we can all understand. Yes, we all need our medical coverage, and hope this new administration will respect that. And, yes, whether your chosen candidate won or lost, we all have to come together as a country to truly be the United States of America.

And, as you say, we all need to rely on hope and faith but, also, to fight peacefully for what we need and that to which we're entitled. You did a good job of putting what many of us feel into words.

I apologize for being out of touch for so long, but I've been very busy this past week. I'm trying to get back on track.

    Hello Michele.
Your sixer and compliments make me feel ten feet tall. Me, run for president? Not in your wildest dreams. Thanks for coming through for me by calling them as you see them. It feels good to know that so many people feel the same way as we do. I received a lot of positive reactions to this post. Keeping hope alive is the best way to conquer the blues when folks are saddened by the election news.
I am sending cards to loved ones who are still in shock by the results. They simply say to keep hope alive and fight the good fight.
No worries about being busy. Life gets in the way of all of us now and then.
Thanks again for the six stars and awesome review!

Be careful not to hit your head on the ceiling now that you're 10' tall.

I'm relieved to hear there are so many people on this site who feel as we do. I was becoming disheartened by the number of pro-Trump pieces I'd come across on the site, so I'm happy to hear the other side is having its say.

As saddened as I am by the results, like you, I refuse to give up hope. I'm hanging on for dear life to the last month-and-a-half of sanity we have left. And every time I despair that our country has sunk this low, I remind myself that there were over 73 million people who voted for Harris. There are still some sane people left in this country after all.
reply by the author on 15-Nov-2024
I think greed drives the people who voted for Trump. Whether sanity comes into play is not certain.
The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The same old song and dance. I also don't think people in this country were ready for a woman to become our president. We can't seem to break that glass ceiling yet.
Yet, as you point out, 73 million sane people voted for Harris. This gives me hope for the future.
    Let's keep hope alive!
reply by Michele Harber on 15-Nov-2024
Absolutely! I'm scared to death of what Trump can do to our democracy in four years. I can only hope and pray that our country can survive it. And, most importantly, I'll continue to vote for the people I believe truly do have our country's best interests at heart. I firmly believe our self-proclaimed "dictator for a day" has only his own best interests at heart.
reply by the author on 15-Nov-2024
Agreed. Let's hope and pray that our country can survive four years of Trump as president.
I too will keep voting for those who have our country's best interest at heart.

That's two votes so far. It's a start.

This was well written and you expressed your opinions, fears and concerns in a way the reader could easily understand. I respect your position and now have better understanding for it. I would only ask that you try to weigh reason and fact against emotions. Your feelings are valid, but we all still should know the law and powers a president has and does have.

Trump cannot cancel or alter your insurance, social security or Medicade/Medicare. A president simply does not have that authority. That would require an act of Congress, and at least 60 votes in the Senate. Realistically, that would never happen in our lifetime. I am a black man, (minority) and I have no fear or worry. No president has ever touched my life. Your local government has more effect on your livelihood than anyone in DC.

Again, you are entitled to your feelings, but it is only rational to temper our feelings with reason and logic. Trump cannot invalidate Gay marriage, no president can. He cannot do anything to strip away rights from any minority group. No president can. Those rights granted to all of us are enshrined in the Constitution and the Civil Rights Act. No president can change or cancel those, even if he/she wanted to.

Remember, Presidents do even make laws. Please, don't like fear cloud sound judgement and knowledge of US laws, Constitutional and Civl right, and the Powers and Restrictions of the Federal branch of Government.

If nothing else. Ask yourself, what horrors did Trump do us 2016 thru 2020 to you or me, or any other minority? What rights were taken away or even attempted?

I wish you well in your surgery and recovery. Keep the faith and hope.

The Supreme Court found that Trump had the supreme domain while he was president the first time, so whatever he wants can and will happen.
As far as horrors, do you remember how Climate Change was affected during his first presidency? He made major violators pay pennies on the dollar by the oil companies and other violators of the environment.
As far as the worldwide debacles he made during his first presidency, all you have to do is read the papers in other countries to see how they feel about how they were treated. For example, his stupidity was that he didn't know Puerto Rico was part of the United States.
    Need I go on?
    Keep hope alive!

Well said, Jesse. I agree with you. I was sure, kamala was going to win. She worked hard, her policies were great, she works for all Americans, she had the support of many people, including big stars and president Obama and Michelle Obama. I wasn't even worried.

I was so socked when I found out Trump won against all odds. He can't put a coherent sentence and he says the most crazy things. He is such a toxic man. But his supporters love him no matter what. He even gave a blow job to a microphone during a rally.

I depend on my ssdi and medicate to survive. I have kaiser through medical and Medicare, if Trump takes that away I don't know what would happen to me. I have a serious disease and without my medication I could end up in the hospital.

I have hope California will help us. We have better benefits than other states.

My daughter is gay and married to a lesbian. They are afraid their marriage will be not valid.

Anyway, it's time to fight the good fight and get connected.

Well done!

Thanks, my friend, for the six stars and the coherent review. Keep hope alive! California just passed a law that says that same-sex marriages are valid and will remain valid. As far as medication and health insurance your guess is as good as mine what is going to happen after he gets in office. Fight the good fight and let's keep it non-violent. Getting connected is a great idea. Do you have any plans? Please let me know.
We are fortunate to live in California.

Yes, I'm grateful to live in California. I'm going to check if I can get connected with other democrats who feel the way I do. I will participate in peaceful protests when I can. I'm 66 years old and don't have the energy and stamina I had when I was younger. My last protest was the women's walk in Sacramento during trump's first presidency. Let's fight the good fight and get in good trouble.

    Gypsy hugs 😊

I also plan to participate in protests when I can walk soon.
Community organizing is a good way as well.

    Thanks for the hugs.

I am very much in agreement with you. I am also having a cranky computer and this may be a second or third review you receive from me. At 78 I worry about his threats against social security. My very best wishes and God's blessings on your surgery.

Thank you for this first attempt at a wonderfully sweet review. As far as I can see your cranky computer got it right this time. I too am a senior and worry about changes for the worse with social security.
Let's not give up hope, Carol, at least not yet anyway.
Thanks for your good wishes and blessings on my upcoming surgery.
    Enjoy the upcoming week.

Thanks for sharing your story, your views, and your notes, Jesse. You did a very good job writing it. It is respectful and you use your personal situation to support your views, and I particularly like the inclusion of the song lyric.

We do need to have a lot of hope at this time. There is a lot of uncertainly until the new president is sworn in and we see what happens. There will probably be uncertainty, but we will know more about what it is and then can deal with it, hopefully.

I wouldn't think you would lose your health care. Maybe there is a way you can find out by calling your insurance company after the transition takes place in the new year, and you have more information.

I think it is good you are using your walker and building up your strength. It is probably helping in other ways, too. You have come a long way since you wrote about your previous situations. You are showing more confidence and that will go a long way in helping you through difficulties. I know it is hard, but try not to heap worries on yourself that haven't happened yet. Pay attention to what is going on and take precautions when you need to. Always rely on those who know the most about your situation. Take care.

He was already our president before so we know what he is capable of and what he plans to do when he becomes president for the second time is more of what happened the first time.
He and his followers don't like anything or anyone different from what they are used to and that is alarming when it comes to me and my differences from the "Norm."
I will take precautions and hope for the best.
Thanks for your concern and advice.
Take care of yourself and your loved ones.

Good morning, Jesse,
I love the title of your essay and the honesty with which you have penned your thoughts and beliefs.
I, too, "leaned on hope" for the past four years, and on Tuesday my hopes were realized with the election of Donald J. Trump as the 47th president of the United States.
That may, or may not, come as a shock to you, but I have my reasons just as you have yours. And I respect your position just as I hope you will respect mine.
I am so very encouraged that your surgery is coming soon. In fact, it cannot come soon enough! I will be sending all of my positivity and healing strength your way, dear friend. You've got this! "Nose to Toes!"

Thank you for sharing!
fondly,
diane

    Hello Diane.
I had a feeling you were on the other side of the coin. To each their own. This is what makes our country a democracy.
Thanks for the six stars and the honest review.
I am looking forward to your support for my upcoming surgery.
I can't wait to walk so that I can run if necessary.
Who knows what will happen? We will have to wait and see.
Thanks for your honesty and integrity, my friend.
    Take care,

Well, Jesse, if you need to run anywhere, you are always welcome in my home!
If you look at a map of Michigan, regarding the voting results on Tuesday, you will see that Traverse City (where I reside) and Grand Rapids were virtually a solid blue wall.
So, I do know what it feels like to be in a minority. All of my former teaching colleagues, save one, also voted "blue."
Interestingly enough, the colleague who voted Republican, took his 88-year-old-father to shop at The Old Mission General Store, just down the road from my home, on Wednesday.
His father was summarily kicked out of said establishment because he was wearing a Trump hat...
As for me, when my husband and I went to our voting place, a young man ahead of me was voting for the very first time. He placed his voting material in the machine, and many of the workers applauded. And then one yelled, "Give that man a Harris/Walz sticker."
    Yup...
    I have no answers.
    Just many observations.
And I am leaning on hope for the next four years and beyond.

    fondly,
    diane

Lean on Hope Jesse. I pray your knee surgery will go will and I'm sure those benefits will not be taken from you. I believe we will eat healthier, prosper under a self sufficient economy and while I don't like the man, the democrats chose a candidate I could not support. But, I too believe we each have a right to our opinion and I respect your right. I will be praying for a good result for your knee surgery.
Blessings
Janet

Lean on me when you're not strong And I'll be your friend I'll help you carry on For it won't be long 'Til I'm gonna need somebody to lean on You just call on me, brother, when you need... Bill Withers

In this world of confusion and strife, we all need to come together in the eyes of the Lord and find strength to carry one. Rage and fighting isn't going to be the answer. There is truly only one answer that can pull this country back from its knees.

Smiles, Carol
