I think sometimes, no matter how much our parents love us, sometimes they just don't get us, I could feel that when you were talking about the clothes you bought. A well written piece, Beth. I really enjoyed reading it.

I recall some of the actions my sister put my mother through concerning appearance. I got tickled at her when she was getting ready for church one day complaining she had fried hair, and was not going. I enjoyed the read and can see how you girls place pressure on things. LOL.

It's strange how we have memories of the clothes we wore as kids. I remember having to wear my cousins' hand-me-down dresses. My aunt made them, and they were beautiful. They lived in the southern part of the state, too, so no one would have recognized them. I think it was wonderful that your grandmother made your clothes. I wonder if she used one of those old treadle machines. Funny about your classmates thought they were clothes coming back into style again. As you noted, that does happen! My suggestion would be to confine this part to your clothes and make the story about speech teacher a separate chapter. judi

I think you did well with your mom, knowing which fights to pick. It's usually the mother who has to make that choice but you were always precocious. I think you're right about fashions returning. I wear my dress from 30+ years before to church and all the young ladies admire it. Lol.

Interesting story. Clothes of that time were all different from each other at least, as your photo indicates. But they didn't have the same importance in defining one's social staus as perhaps they do these days. Sad about that teacher letting you down - that wasn't at all fair.

I wish I held onto that sixth str. Amazing! All your stories hold me in all the way to the end, then I want more. There were a few grammatical errors, mainly with commas. But I truly enjoyed this.

Some teachers can be very selfcentred. I remember the charity dresses, and the jumble sales. All the mums would go and rummage through them for any bargains. I actually like going to charity shops today, you can find some exellent expensive clothes for a fraction of their price. I enjoyed reading this part, my friend. :) Sandra xxx

Thank you, Sandra. I'm so behind that I have 150 reviews to reply to and I feel really bad about not getting to yours sooner because you went back and read all those chapter on Anatomy of a Marriage and even gave me extra stars. I'm trying to get to them. I had errors in this because I had cat jumping on the keyboard and driving me nuts. Thank you again. I love the resale and thrift shops. Some of my favorite clothes were recycled.
