Beautiful definition of that drive inside that pushes competitors beyond what they could 'reasonably' acheive -- well stated! ;) I would suggest that you could evoke the same emotions from your readers by creating a form that lends itself more to the poetic ear... A wonderful ending with the fact that we are always 'becoming'... :) Thanx for sharing and best of luck in the competition! ;)

I'm a competitor, so I thoroughly enjoyed your free verse. I liked every line, but especially the last one. "I am a competitor in all phases of life. I'm always in the process of becoming." This would be an excellent poem for parents to read to their children. Life is hard work. Thank you. gayla
