Oh, to have all those items that I threw away or gave away as a kid. I was unpleasantly surprised to find my nephew thrown away several spindle records and had taken apart a standing Victrola. He made it into a bird house.

I imagine many of us never dreamed how valuable those cheap toys we were careless with and destroyed as a child might someday be worth. People are telling of baskets full of baseball card their Mom thew out when they left home. I'll be they still feel sick when they think about it.

Very cool story, Beth. It's amazing to me how some things like old baseball cards can take on such value over time. They are worth huge amounts to some people, though they would be worthless to most.
My wife had some old silver dollars from the early 20th century that we decided to sell, figuring we might get a good price for them. They were quite tarnished, though, so we thought it would be a good idea to shine them up so they looked more attractive, but that was a big mistake because it made them decline in value a fair amount. We still made some money, but not nearly as much had we not shined them with silver polish.

Very cool story, Beth. It's amazing to me how some things like old baseball cards can take on such value over time. They are worth huge amounts to some people, though they would be worthless to most.

Thank you, Jim. If I were selling silver money, I would have done the same thing to shine them up. I didn't realize it would hurt the value.

No, you're wrong, Beth. Yours is something achieveable, and it's also something youngsters can do today if they can find a hill to dig out a cave or dig a hole. That's what makes your story so good. It makes me wonder if there are such seemingly simple treasures hidden away by kids many years ago.

Never had a cave but I did collect the cards. The entire Mil walkie Braves from Johnney Podres, you name it. I gave them to my Grandson for his boys to enjoy. Yes they are worth much.

I really enjoyed this cave story. Your detailed descriptions and authentic dialogue made the story sound biographical. Dana's uncle was unbelievably generous. In real life, he would have wanted at least part of the quarter of a million dollars. Great, feel good story. Best wishes in the contest.

Thank you, Ulla. The example shows a sentence continuing and it says the dialogue can continue. I've always added to the dialog of the sentence and haven't ever been disqualified. I will check it out for sure.

Thank you, Barbara. I guess I left that too confusing. There were two paragraphs of Dana speaking. She was continuing her story about her grandpa, but I forgot the quotes. I put a tag on the second one so it's not so confusing. It was errors I remember correcting, but I must not have hit save.

You always have a way of adding information that takes me back in time to things I can relate with. Just one of the many cards was a Mickey Mantle rookie card, it wasn't worth as much when my grandmother gave all the cards to Good Will, but today, it's worth 12.6 million dollars. Thanks for sharing.

Wow. That is enough to make one a little ill whether you need the money or not. I would never get rid of anything that belonged to my kids without asking them first if they wanted it. That is probably why there is so much clutter in my garage.
