Such a glorious image which your 1-9-1 reflects beautifully in the poignancy of your words. There is always a sense that this magnificent animal needs to be permanently on the run to escape his predator. I'm wondering if you needed to break the flow with a new sentence when you could have just put a comma and left out the one after 'odds.'
Born/wild, against the odds he lives to be /free. But an excellent contender and my favourite. Good luck! Debbie

Hi Debbie,
Thank you, thank you. You've come to the rescue again! It's like having my own editor! Punctuation is not my strong point (can you guess?) I've made the change and it is much better. Thank you so much for your interest, time and help xx

No, I don't blame you for wanting to put a full-stop there and in prose we probably would. It's just that in a short verse like this where fluency is important, it can seem a bit jarring. I can still see that image as I type...

Author,
I live in Ann area full of all kinds of hunting. I like that you brought attention to this beautiful creature!
Some in my family hunt, and although I can shoot a rifle, I choose not to.
Here's hoping this hunting season is fruitful for the elk, deer, bear, turkey, etc.
Good luck in the contest!

Lucky stag. I wish we were born to be free, but I guess, like anyone, this stag has had his challenges. This is a lovely, reflective poem. So much is conveyed with so few words.
