Arizona sounds like a delightful location with so many interesting natural features - I have never been to Arizona but putting it on my bucket list might be a good idea- the cacti are really interesting and how aged they are. Hope you are feeling a lot better?

I thought it was hot in Arizona. I've never been there, but I hope to one day. America is on my bucket list. The picture got my attention--is that what all cacti look like? It's weirdly beautiful.

Pat thanks. I bought two tiny cacti in the gift shop over the glass walk (couldn't afford the price). Brought Thorny and Spiky back to Oregon. Nursed them inside the damp dark Oregon living room and they GREW. Finally I got smart and moved them outside for the summer, watered them too much and they just about exploded. They now are thinning out (had big bulbs on the top from overwatering) and thrive at my clinic. They are more than a foot tall and have survived since 2009. Long lived poor houseplants. Are you done being operated on yet? Esther

Lovely poem. Yes, desert heat can be draining, especially if the summer is a long one. We used to live in Saudi Arabia where the temperature was around the 100 to 120 mark for nine to ten months of the year. The cacti are very interesting and different.

Hi Pat, it's good to see that you are back on FS and feeling well.
I love the poem. Through our FS members, I have become aware of the beauty of Arizona and the beauty of wild flowers that grow in the desert.
Of special note:
we have pretty blooming cacti
Do you think that the cactus in the photo could be 100 years old or more? Just wondering?
Well done. Xo. M

Patricia,
I drove through Arizona and saw the Grand Canyon with some family members in 1977. I'll wager that it's changed a lot since then.
In 1975 I was accepted at the University of Arizona at Tempe, but I joined the Army instead. I later attended Penn State, because it was closer to home.
Your photo is so beautiful.
My sister lived in neighboring Las Vegas and she also said the summers were unbearable there. If you ever come to Pennsylvania in mid-winter, you might like Arizona's summers a little better. It gets downright cold here!
Your rhyming poem is lovely!
Best wishes,
Cindy

Your poem and picture make Arizona sound really beautiful, especially driving and seeing cacti growing along the road. Your poem and notes describe a great place to live, except for the heat. But then...there's air conditioning.

You are very fortunate. I've always craved to be out west but I always, through circumstances, seemed to be moved only in the three other directions. Right now, it appears I'll be South for awhile.
