Hi Tom,
These are interesting ruminations that remind us life is short and we must not put off things because we never know when we won't have time to fix them. What is 'the pill' in roulette?
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Have a wonderful day.
Joan
P S By the way, I have just published a book that is now available on Amazon.com. It is called "The Interloper (and other stories in prose and poetry)" by Joan Pechter.

The "pill" is the name for the ball that is spun around in Roulette. I thought it to be apropos to our life's fate ending when - who knows.
Good luck on your release. And thank you for the ead and comment.

P.S. - Fall will not be the beauty in Western North Carolina for a long time. Hurricane Helene destroyed dozens of towns. Simply wiped them where they stood in a torrent of water. Even I-26 could not survive and took a dive into the Pigeon River.

Thanks for the definition of the pill. I thought it was the aspirin you needed to take to get rid of the pain of losing at roulette. Haha. I am so sorry for those towns and its people who have to deal with loss of people and belongings as well as the beauty of nature.

Ciao,

growing up I slowly realised that if you want to get things done best to do them ( errands, chores etc) straightaway... this mindset makes life much easier and happier.

Certain problems just weigh and make us miserable until we resolve them and finally our piece of mind returns.

Like when fallouts occur especially with loved ones , or close friends we should try and mend the relationship because we don't know who much time we have.

I learned the hard way as I speak from experience.

I read your notes , nice idea to represent daylight and night with the gold / black hues.

Welcome to my world, which has survived though nature did a number on us in Western North Carolina. Hurricane Helene wiped off more than a dozen towns. An Interstate highway is impassable as it drop into the Pigeon River. It will be a decade to begin repairing what this storm did to the folks round about here. We survived with nary a nick. An inconvenience of no power or communication for seven days but this morning the sun will rise once more.

Your notes show thoughtfulness and careful preparation and presentation. I enjoyed your philosophical poem and the reflections about time, our mortality and the uncertainty of our length of days. Best wishes for your entry.

A thoughtful free verse for the contest here -- your words of reflection mixed with random though loosely thread together make for a re-read that discovers something different each time -- thank you so much for sharing and best of luck in the contest!

I enjoyed this rambling piece, which, in typical fashion, began with a profound piece of advice then showed how you completely disregard it.

In the middle portion, you speak of time being continuous with no timeouts, and then liken it to a game of chance in which you have no control over the outcome.

It then devolves into self-congratulation on how right your often are by comparing your reasoning to an obvious fact, while accurately noting the exceptions to this.

Truly random thoughts that always make me smile at how your mind works.

What can my mind be called? What is a puzzle that cannot be solved? An insoluable problem? An intractable conundrum? I thought of a rubic's cube but wo that has been solved in many ways though I solved mine by taking off the colors on the six sides and regluing them. Thanks.

Or perhaps Enigma, which was also the name of a German encryption machine during WW2 that produced highly coded, virtually indecipherable messages?

The terrific movie The Imitation Game was the story of how Alan Turing led a British group to crack the Enigma codes and intercept the messages. He invented what amounted to the first real computer to do it.

I'm not sure even a supercomputer could crack your codes, though!

I like your approach to procrastination. I like to find nuggets of lines and phrases in poetry. I found a good one in your poem.
"There are no time-outs
once our time is set in motion."
Nicely written, and that statement is true every day.

This poem, Random Thoughts, makes time the important factor in our lives, as it has always been. Midnight means both the end of one chance and the beginning of another.

We are definitely not promised tomorrow, mystery poet. We just watch time tick by, not knowing when the last grain of sand is going to fall. I love the appearance and message of your poem. We don't have control of how many grains will fall, but the time in-between and what we do with it, that's what we have.

Best of luck in the contest.

I have commented on your commented twice before. I cannot understand why, if it hasn't been seen by you, it remains as if I never made note.

I love this poem, it points out the propensity and the weakness of men in day to day activities, and the great possibilities of the same, and then points out the things we can't, such as the things of natural law, beautifully written My friend, blessings Roy
