Congratulations, again, Rod. I watched "To Kill a Mockingbird" when I was very young. I didn't understand its ramifications at the time.
I have a love-affair with Hollywood now because they tackle gutsy issues like this one. It's amazing such a movie was made in the 60's, (and successful at that), when there was such a violent wave of unrest in our country.
Gregory Peck and Robert Duvall did such a good job!
Best wishes, Rod. I look forward to reading more of your work!
Best wishes,
Cindy

I liked this short story with good advice. I didn't see any typos. It seems to be a good match for this particular contest. Did Harper actually say that in an interview? I'm curious!

Yes, I quoted Harper verbatim from articles I read about her. Thank you for sharing my story. Rod

Focus and meaningful this brief exchange between Harper Lee and the writer - some well chosen words and sentiments and isn't that what all writing is ultimately about?

I liked your conversation with Harper Lee. Well-written with a message for us all. Usually I try to write for a certain audience, but in your writing, Harper Lee said, "Write for yourself." She encouraged "would be writers" to just write! A very good message we all need, I think.

To "Kill a Mockingbird" is also one of my favorite books. I wish I could write something as memorable. I, like the rest of us, struggle daily to come up with the right words. She's right, write for your own enjoyment. I do. Thanks for sharing it and good luck in the contest.

I, too, wish I could write something as memorable as TKAM. But I do write for myself. Your review is much appreciated. Rod

My pleasure, Rod. Stay well.

Hello stranger -
Liked your story and for some reason this thought came to me.
"Along Came a Sparrow"
Don't ask me where that came from - maybe it was meant to be sent?
It has been a few months, but I'm alive and the weather has dropped below our record of consecutive days in the 100's.
Best regards,
Dick

Rod,
I am not sure I want to decide between the movie and the book - Gregory Peck brought Atticus to life IMHO.
Pleasing ourselves is why I started my amateur poetry adventure 25 years ago. I earnestly started down the Haiku path only 5-7 years ago. FS became my publicity route.
Lately, I onl post but maybe 2-3 times every two weeks. For a period of time I was posting more than double that quantity. Possibly my enthusiasm has dampened. Likely, I should spend more time with my poetry hobby.
So, your essay was spot on about 'meeting' Harper Lee. Her advice is worth considering!

Mark, I am frustrated with FS. I wrote you a lengthy reply which did not go through. This is becoming more and more common. But I did want to thank you for your review and interesting personal comments. Rod

I too have had that problem - five times I responded to the same reviewer and it never was sent/received.
I wrote to Tom about it, but it did not get fixed - frustrating!
