Another fine poem, Gypsy....how true it is, too. Sometimes it's hard to remember that fact, with all the crap life can throw at you and weigh you down with pain, but that the fact you can feel that pain means you're alive

I was 70 on my birthday this past January. I know many people who feel that's old. I do not. I still work out at the gym 5 days a week. What bothers me the most is sometimes it takes me a little longer than I would like to remember somethings. I hate that and get frustrated. I know it's in my brain but can't pull is up as fast as I used to. Thank you for sharing this wonderful poem with us.

Yes, I added in my author notes that this is just a poem and many older ladies are youthful and vibrant.... like you

Hi Gypsy, wonderful poem with pictures going from a beautiful young woman to an older woman, relating about the sea as a young child and a birthday going from younger years to older years. The sea does the same thing,to me it can appear as a child'sbasketfull of shells, stones, etc. then it moves into a romantic walk with ocean tide shadows hovering near its glassywaves, then it canlook like and old woman with grayish white frosted waves. Oh yes, I can relate fully. I feel old and different and am still trying to catch up with the changes. Perhaps, I should just let them be and rejoice in the fact I'm still here:) Your beautifully presented woman's perspective across the years is a joy to read. Thank you so much, Gypsy. Take care Debbie

I think y hat at least in my society, m en seem to adjust to getting older better than women. I think it has much to do with the culture. Beautifully illustrated and presented.
Thanks for sharing.

Growing old is a privilege not afforded to everyone. I cherish it and do not mind another birthday whatsoever. My life's mantra is: Always. Choose. Joy.

Very true poem, though, the many stages of womanhood, but isn't it a shame that the third deity is a "crone?" Sheesh!! Oh well, we'll do our bet to disprove that, right, Gypsy? xoxo

I made some changes, I deleted the stanza about the three fates: the maiden, the mother, and the crone

In some cultures, like native Americans, old women are celebrated. The white hairs are hairs of wisdom... I love that.

    Thank you very much, Rachelle

As a woman who's covering up her "wisdom hair," so do I!! Oh, the time and money I could save myself every month!!!

I gave up dying my hair. For me, the darker hair didn't look natural. Now I am embracing the way I look (most of the time). As I wrote in my author notes, many older ladies are in good shape, beautiful, and vibrant. My poem is just a poem.

It is amazing to look back at our lives and see our choices and phases. The things we used to find funny, or enjoy may have changed drastically over time. This was a thought provoking poem. Gretchen

Your reflection on the different stages of life, from childhood wonder at the beach to the romance and now the wisdom of age, is so touching. I love the image of her meditating by the sea, letting her memories flow with the tide. It's a beautiful reminder that getting older is a sign of a life lived fully. It feels comforting and real.

a lot of senior women are van-lifers traveling the country with other senior women! (butterfly tracks on youtube - it's inspiring!)

anyway, a wonderful free verse with great imagery and thought-provoking smooth flow...
