I do not have a green thumb. In fact, if plants could run, they'd try to escape from me. However, recently a FanStory friend sent me two African Violets (known to be rather delicate and persnickety about their light, amount of water, and such) -- and I talk to them every morning. So far so good. We're going on three weeks, and I see new blossoms!

This one makes me smile. If my plants start to die can you send a recording of your wife's voice?

(I may need backup!)

Ciao!

I'm sorry I missed this in the booth. I believe that speaking to a plant helps it "feel" cared for.

Before I burnt my mother's ficus elastica, I talked to it daily.

I loved to see new shoots. So bright, they looked edible.

Your wife's plant "looks " happy.

Your delightful poem brought back bittersweet memories.

Hi
It is said talking to plants makes them grow. I guess this story in a poem proves it.
You are missing spaces in the first and second lines.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Have a great weekend.
Joan

    Joan,

Thanks for your support for this post. My wife agrees with your sentiment.

I tied for third in the final voting, but I had reviewed the winning entry before the vote.

    Joan,

I use an iphone typically to write my poems. However, if you view in landscape mode, you will not see spacing problems. Take a relook to see if that fixes your issue.

Good entry for the 5-5-5 poem contest. Good syllables count and connection between lines. Nice presentation.

Some people talk to their plants and their plants do better.

(Plantwith) should be 2 words.

Goodluck

    Thanks for your review Gypsy.

I was tied for third with many others for this entry. If the poem had been entered in the Olympics, I would not have earned a bronze medal.

I like this, Mark, mostly because your wife gets joy from her plant. It's important to see the small joys in life and to seize upon them. I often kiss my shamrocks because I love them so much.
Thanks for sharing this one.

Hi, Mark

This looks like a good entry for the contest. Good luck with that!!

I think the contest committee screwed up because I got a notification for your poem here and it looks like it was a blind contest

I talk to my plant too. I named her HildeBurne. She just got repotted and she's not doing very well. And I'm in the hospital so I can't talk to her at all now.

This is a good 5/5/5 poem
She was repotted recently I just hope hildeburne survives. I wish I could see new shoots on her

I enjoyed reading your poem

Good job. Thank you for sharing.

It is a blind contest entry. The FS admin helped me undo my original post that was meant to be entered in the 5-5-5 contest.

My wife has not given her plant a name. Maybe when I share your review she will reconsider.

    Thanks for your good wishes.

But if it's a blind contest, why did they send me notification that you had posted it? Or if it's a blind contest, they're not supposed to do that because that reveals your identity

I had mistakenly posted without using my reservation for the contest. I asked the FS administrator to fix for me. You received the notice before it was properly entered.

    Thanks anyway for your review even if you knew the author for the blind contest entry (-;

This made me smile. I found it so relatable. I check my plants for new shoots daily. Just like your poem says I am always happy when there is growth.

I liked the simplicity of the poem. You conveyed so much in a few words. I enjoyed reading it.

My wife certainly agrees with you. I am happy that she tells me of seeing new shoots almost daily.

    Marilyn,

We are not much of a plant family. We also no longer have a vegetable garden.

Of course, bought flowers create smiles too.
