Another fine poem, Gypsy, and upsetting for me to even read, I absolutely abhor hunting and dislike most people who hunt. You have to be heartless to hunt

This was sad but beautiful and definitely artistically drawn with your perfect lines full of perfect words. I imagined every moment of this scene. Also - as always - beautiful picture and presentation, Miss Masterful!! xoxox

I think that this is a reality of life. Hunters hunt and kill, I think the tragedy comes when it is done for nothing but amusement. Your poem is very well presented, and may even resonate on the consciences of man.

This is always so sad that such beautiful creatures should be shot so cruelly, particularly when they are hunted down in fear of their lives. I wondered if the third line applied to the hunter or the prey (in which case it should have been (her) chest. Or maybe, deliberately, both? The scarlet trail to the end is a very effective summation for this poignant read. Well done, Gypsy. Take care Debbie

Thank you, Debbie, I meant the hunter's heart but reading the poem again, it makes more sense if it's the doe's heart.
Thank you very much, Debbie. I hope you are having a fabulous weekend.

I've had twin fawns helping themselves to our peaches earlier this summer. They were so very cute. Momma was standing by to make sure all went well. I'm not a hunter and don't like hunting. Thank you for sharing this poem with us.

I've never been fond of those blood sports, I went hunting with my father when I was fourteen, I didn't like it, I only went one more time, I never went again, beautifully written Gypsy, as always, blessings Roy

The author footnotes explain this type of sonnet. Poem, I mean. This is a beautiful presentation! A pretty fawn. How could a Nimrod shoot it's mother? Guess a person without a heart that loves to kill for the sport of it?
I quit deer hunting or any type of hunting years ago. the wounded doe meets her fate
scarlet trail to its end
That's a brutal and sad ending!
BOO!

That's so sad. I know hunting is a sport but it was better when there was a survival need to hunt. These days we hunt at the grocery store and we don't have to deal with all the gory details that would make me a vegetarian! Great job describing a hunt.

I tried not eating meat but I don't buy the groceries and it was very hard. I agree with you, if you kill for survival is different than for sport. Poor sweet animals.
Thank you for the review, big sister
