Wow! This is a very powerful message to not bottle up your emotions. What a shame that someone so interested in knowledge and learning can't balance that with emotion as well.

I come from a very loving, affectionate family. My husband's family was also loving, but they showed it via material things, and not affection. Meeting my family was culture shock for my husband but, after a little while, he came to not only accept but reciprocate the affection, and even tried to loosen up his own family. Of course, what finally did the trick was having a grandchild. My in-laws learned affection very quickly after that.

Your poem tells this poor, misguided man's story beautifully, with perfect narration told in excellent meter and rhyme. Your lesson is, of course, very important. Letting out emotions is necessary, not just in sharing affection but because, when kept inside, emotions can cause a person to pop, like the valve on a pressure cooker. Depending on the person, that could be dangerous. So, thank you for an excellent poem and an important message.

You took us from the cradle (birth) to the cross (death), in a smoothly paced poem. Many men are reluctant to share their feelings, or demonstrate emotions, especially men of yesteryear. They never hugged their children, or said the words, "I love you." Your story in a poem delivers a very powerful message.

I really enjoy your poem that takes s through the journey of man from birth to the grave. Each stanza going through different phases of his life captured in wonderful rhyme and rhythm.
It also has a sadness about it, he wore a cloak of frost, so many people out there like that. Some don't even realise and trek through life knowing no different and some do and have a hard time.
Well done on this, thanks for sharing with us

This poem captured in graphic terms the journey of a man's life. As usual, the flow of the poem is well paced and lyrical. The old man's best advice is very instructive. Well done, dear Pam. I enjoyed every bit of the work. Warm regards, Eso.

The cycle of life from birth to death here in your rhyming poem Pam and I enjoyed the journey that reminds us that life is short and we are soon in that grave, love Dolly x

The poem flows nicely, the message is clear and a good one but I would like to see a little more subtlety in your message, maybe incorporating metaphor to make your point or hinting at the conclusion without coming right out and stating it.

Hey thank you for your honesty and for your suggestions and criticism. I had a much longer version of this poem, but people were complaining that my palms were too long so I cut about 200% out. Maybe I should not have done that

    Thanks for the informative review

Hi Pam, yes, I can see what you're saying here. He never let out who he really was and before he knew his life was over and totally forgotten. How sad is that? A beautifully written poem. Ulla xcx

Pam,
Your wonderful poem is so sad, and through your words, you set a somber and regretful tone of this man's empty life..
Very poignant and
An awesome wake up call for those of us who may have a cloak of frost ourselves.
Awesome, Pam!
Cindy
