I love poems that rhyme and this one has that pleasant aabb rhyme scheme. It also has a definite structure with 8-4-4-4 syllables per stanza. I like the topic as well, as it is inspiring and makes me feel happy for the poet who trained long and hard and succeeded at his or her goal. I relate to that good feeling! Not in track, though. But other endeavors!!!

Hi

Do you know what that photo is? It's one of the two men who raised their arms like that to protest racism.

Here is the write up about that

" During their medal ceremony in the Olympic Stadium in Mexico City on October 16, 1968, two African-American athletes, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, each raised a black-gloved fist during the playing of the US national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner". While on the podium, Smith and Carlos, who had won gold and bronze medals respectively in the 200-meter running event of the 1968 Summer Olympics, turned to face the US flag and then kept their hands raised until the anthem had finished. In addition, Smith, Carlos, and Australian silver medalist Peter Norman all wore human-rights badges on their jackets."

Here is a photo taken during the national anthem of the US. Athletes don't normally raise their arms like that during medal ceremonies

Well, it won't let me send the photo due to auto fill, which I hate

Your photo is of Tommie Smith, the gold medalist for that event

I'm glad you used this photo because both of those black men were considered scum after they got home by the majority whites

Your poem captures happy times at the Olympics. I have not watched a single second of it even though I'm from the US and the US is doing very well

I enjoyed reading your poem

Good job. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks, Pam. Yeah, I watched it live and stood up to applaud both men for their courage as well their exceptional ability. It was around about the time I was arrested for participation in a "Free Angela Davis" protest march. However, the picture serves a broader purpose here, being one of very few FanArtReview pics which is Olympic-themed. Grateful for your positive comments.

I enjoyed your poem. For me my favorite part was the way you share the joy and pride of crossing the finish line. Your word choices are perfect. The rhythm makes this poem feel a real celebration of achievement. Well done!
