This story is adorable, as is your daughter. I guess this fits under the heading of "Be careful what you wish for." You wished for her to be honest and she was--brutally so. On the positive side, you're raising an honest child. On the negative side, you now have to walk on eggshells and be careful of everything you ask. Oh well, I suppose there are worse things than honesty.
Thanks for a story that made me smile. Good luck in the contest.

This promises to lead somewhere interestingly. Somehow I sense a twist going on here: "My incredibly reasonable and articulate daughter agreed to stop lying." the brutal honesty was the plot for some movie or TV show, where the people could not tell a lie. Many of us were agast. We seem to want to do a gallow's chuckle

Haha! I love this. I have 3 daughters myself and they too can be brutally honest and it's funny. I've retracted when they got a little older to say well it is okay on occasion when the news arises to tell the odd white lie, we teach them to not first but I suppose it's a very important life lesson.

Nicki, thanks so much!

We say we want the truth but then it stings. Children are so simple in their delivery of it, I find. It's more matter of fact as if to be helpful. We had three boys in a row, and when the truth hurt me, they would follow with verbal first-aid. "Oh, but mommy, you're bootiful, or--!"
Precious daughter and flash you have here. All my best with this one, dear Jess.

You definitely met the brief on this one! The photo was a good choice to illustrate the kind of thoughtful child who would behave the way she did. My only quibble is that there is no contrast between behavior in the story and the last sentence. Seems like it could be "And she's been..." just to show that it's the same attitude going forward. This is the only one-word criticism I've ever written! Good work.

Lol. That's funny. And I'm glad she kept true to her word but then how to explain when to couch words to keep polite when one is only three? Best wishes in the contest!

hahahahahaha omg, it's so funny! Can't get upset either, she's just doing what she's told. Children are hilarious and so extreme too. Thank you for sharing this.

Wow! What an amazingly gifted child. She truly is incredibly reasonable and articulate. Far beyond her years.
Good luck in the contest.

At least you know she had learned her lesson well. That is a riot, Jess! I trust that when she was perhaps a little older, you taught her about white lies? Kids can be brutally honest, can't they?
A very well-written little flash story.
