This is a touching post of how war can rob families of their fathers and leave a scar in those who could not save their colleagues in war, a poignant write Jim. Love Dolly x x x

Hi Jim, I just got done writing a whole page to tell you I loved your story but something happened and I lost the review.
It was great, and I love how you write, but could you tell a little more how your dad comes into your picture. Or maybe it is a two part, and if that is the case., please let me know when it be another one. Thanks so much, Jim. Love, Debi

This story, Daddy, creates a hole where the narrator can tell the readers this confined tale of men at war. The overall story seems to broaden, at the end, to our failures with our Heavenly Father.

I'm sure there are many who have memories of battles that never quite leave them, and the questions of why. You brought the stories of the fathers in well, Sarge, what fatherhood meant to him, how his children would not get to know their Dad, and then the twist, and the question we are left with. What did he do, why the guilt over his own father. A very poignant story, Jim.
cheers

Yes, sir, I think you've probably hit home with many who look back and remember or miss the daddy they who wasn't there or they lost early on. Thanks for sharing.

Hi, jim
What DID you do to your father? This story does not tell me that. Are you going to give me a clue?
War is terrible. War is horrific. Nobody wants to be the last survivor of their unit. Well, maybe somebody real self-centered would want that.
Hopefully, the Sarge's life example will be enough to get you on the right track
I enjoyed reading your story very much
Good job. Thank you for sharing.

Your story is a real tear-jerker. We never realize how much someone means to us until they are gone. Then comes all the guilt and things left unsaid. Great writing.

Oh wow, Jim, you bring this scene to life with such drama and poignancy. And you do it spectacularly requiring so few words. What a great writer you are no matter what genre you turn your hand to! Well done! Debbie

Thank you for sharing with us a deeply emotional story that could've happened and likely did happen on many battlefields over the centuries. Thank you for making the reality of war and the reality of our day-to-day life come together in a quintessential telling of a story of societal significance.

Your post clearly shows someone in turmoil with themself based on prior relationship struggles. The fact that the character saw all the good in another person who was a Dad and whom he looked up to, finally made him realize his prior actions and regret them. Good story.
