Reese,

Congrats on winning On The Reaching of a Milestone Contest. Your story is one of inspiration and hope in the face of a milestone impacting your life that was reached following a life changing experience that happened not once but twice in a above average life.

All the best,

Eugene

Eugene, you honor me with your review. Thank you. I wanted to get to know you, so I read some of your work. "Stuck" with me as it was, to me, a metaphor of my experiences in life. Best wishes to you and Bermuda.

Great to hear from you Teri7. Thanks for your thoughtful review. Indeed, I have had more "blessings" or "luck" than I deserve and I do try to share. And, my daughters still love me, my wife still endures me, and my government has not jailed me. Life is good!

Ciao , you now have 4 votes.

I don't have any milestones to list . Never went to university, never got married , never had children

You served your country, married , raised three children.

I loved the middle section and the various comments each person according to you would say ...
The best is the last :

The cat, (No comment. Just turned her back to me.)

It is so grand to find someone who understands. Of course, you understood "The cat" when all of the above examples were introduced as "My...". We who know cats, know that they are never "my", they simply allow us to feed them, on occasion love them, but otherwise, they merely endure us. Perhaps God gave us cats to balance the complete obedience and devotion of dogs. My life is so rich as I have experienced many of both. And, I fully expect a crowd waiting at Heaven's gate. Some will jump on me, lick me, plead with me for attention. Others will appear to ignore me... You know who is who! Your sweet review came at an interesting time. I have a doctor's appointment in a few hours. He will ask many questions about why I am not faithfully taking my meds. I will blame it on losing my best buddy, sweet lady Sissie - A rescue dog and lover of 16 years. Thanks for your wonderful review. I needed that this morning...

I?m sorry for your great loss .. our pets are family members and it hurts bad when they pass away.😥

We lose our appetite , and we tend to neglect our wellbeing.

Initially , I was a big dog lover than we moved and our new neighbours? cat gave birth in your garden .

We kept one kitten and he became the first of many.

Dogs love unconditionally , instead owners must earn the respect and love of a cat.
    🐈‍⬛

In time you will start filling the void you feel with happy memories of your sweet Sissie.

    Take care ! 🍀

And since you write so well, you'd better keep on and up and above average and also above ground. I enjoyed this one muchly. Considering it's tagged non-fiction, let me congratulate you on a life well-enjoyed thus far.

Thank you so much for a nice review. It has not been easy being me, but it has had some fun along the way - including my visits to Tasmania and much of Oz. Here's to Vegemite!

I love this post and the style of your writing! It's as if you're sitting right next to me and engaging in this sincere and yet humorous monologue. Those predicted responses are superb and really brought a smile to my face. They beautifully intercept the prose, providing personality and background, before bringing your reader back to your 'flashback' of younger years. I'm a little behind you and not in great health so I remember thinking, on reaching 70, What an achievement! I would never need to feel cheated now! With spirit like yours, you're good for a few more milestones I'm sure! Strong contender! Good luck! Debbie

I am honored that you would imagine me sitting next to you and telling my stories. My wife has avoided that for decades. Glad you could relate to my responses. Evidently, you have some experience in those things. BTW, I referred to each person as "my", but the cat as "The". I know cats. Prayers for your continued enjoyment of life. I cannot believe I am 76 - and I steadfastly refuse to act like it! When I buy booze, I always ask if they need to see my ID! Those are my dogs with me on the Galveston beach. Little sweetheart Sissie is now waiting for me at the Gate. The Corgy is still bossing me around.

This is a great angle on the reaching a milestone contest, with facts and stats and nicely garnished with a generous touch of humor -a delightful read.
