Death by stoning is truly horrific, and the brutality gladly shown by the men and boys who throw the stones causes us to shudder. Rarely is this practice called to our attention, and I thank you for this poem.

Hi Gypsy, a poem of truth, and your writing shines a light on a most serious matter facing women in the middle east. Of special note:

I still remember
when you knelt
and offered me your hand
to help me stand

(This was not only an act of kindness, but an act of bravery.)

Beautiful presentation. Well done; well told. Thank you for your author's notes. Xo. M

The men are the ones who need to be stoned. Women as a great rule, are the ones who suffer for the crimes of men. Vote women into political office. Raise up women every chance you get. Great picture and great writing. Karen :-)

Women in Third World Counties are treated worse than animals. Matter of fact in South Carolina back before 2004, men who abused women got a less sentence than if he abused his dog. A change was to be voted to the law, but we moved before I found out if the law was changed. Thank you for sharing.

You are so right. The legal system is bad. I was an advocate/peer counselor for victims of rape and violence. I was so angry when the rapists got away with a few months but stealing a car get from two to five years... so unjust.

    Thank you very much, Barbara.

Another fine poem, Gypsy, and it seems to me America is returning to the dark ages. It's no longer a given that it couldn't happen here--not really but with our backwards trajectory, it would fit nicely

First of all I really admire that you are using your talent of writing to create an awareness to a crucial issue like this. I love your artwork, the canvas, the colours, you are truly an artist. Very creative piece, very descriptive and full of imagery. I love that despite all that is going on this kind of creates hope for this women, in the poem she found someone within the crowd of hate who genuine loves her without judging her. Beautifully writing well done!! This also reminds me of the story in the bible where the Pharisees, teachers of the law wanted to stone a woman and Jesus intervene and ask the Pharisees if anyone of you are without sin let him cast the first stone. They all hesitated and withdraw from doing it. Moral of the story is we all make mistakes but it doesn't mean we deserve that kind of punishment.

Yes, it was partly inspired by John 8 of the Bible but I want to leave it open for interpretation.

Thank you very much for the exceptional review and insightful feedback. It shows you understand my poem well.

The story of the woman caught in adultery, Jesus challenged those that were without sin to throw the first stone, of course, as they say, is history, well done, blessings Roy

This poem brought to mind how the Pharisees challenged Jesus saying a woman was caught in adultery. Jesus said nothing but addressed the crowd saying "the one without any sin can throw the first stone." No one could do it. Just like none of the Muslims who stone women can judge others. It's horrible how they treat women and in some countries it's the Christians that are treated in the same way.
Best wishes in the contest!

Yes, I had "John 8" in mind but I want to leave it up to the reader to decide. It is a mixture of real and fantasy, and I have been getting some negative feedback from a member who quotes the bible every time he posts a poem. I am not a bible scholar so I won't quote the bible. My childhood catechism lessons are not that clear anymore. But I knew you would get it.

Thank you very much, big sister. I appreciate you don't judge me.

    love you,
