Hello, Verna,
Wonderful entry for the Faith Flash contest. Your story comes from the heart and it's very well written. I think smell, songs, and places can bring memories.
Well done

Thank you, Gypsy. Hymns have truly influenced my life.

This story, Singing My Faith, reminded me so much of my wife's story. I read this to her, and she agreed. Her recent stroke has put her music on hold for a bit.

Bill, thank you for a word from you and your wife. My husband had two strokes five years ago, and I understand what you have both been going through. I'm so thankful for the wonderful encouragement throughout my life and still for the grand old hymns.

Yes, I have always been deeply moved by the sheer humility and abject thankfulness of those songs, reminding us of Jesus' humility, and the thankfulness we should always bear towards the one who rescued us. Beautifully written Joanne, blessings Roy

What a wealth of inspiring hymns you include here, Verna, in this devotional story. They's certainly guided you through dark and troubled times an given you the will to carry on. Music is a tremendous power and, when combined with stirring lyrics, can achieve momentous, spiritual impact. Thanks for sharing. Take care Debbie

Thank you for a lovely review. I'm, indeed, thankful for the wonderful old hymns.

I just loved this, my friend. I traveled back with you there, a sweet familiar place of sacred songs and shared food. The church potluck was something else. Everything one could imagine prepared by Christian women.
My favorites among your favorites: Amazing Grace, Blessed Assurance, and It is Well With My Soul.
Bless you, my sister and my best wishes in the faith flash.
Love,
Sal Xos

I'm thankful for your review and our shared faith, sweet sister in Christ.

I really enjoyed your faith entry. I love all of those old hymns as well. Now more of the churchs seldom use the hymn books and more modern praise songs are projected on screens. Those older songs were so meaningful and moving. This one should do well in the contest. Does you church still have camp meetings?

Thank you for your review, Beth. I grew up in the Wesleyan Church and went to Wesleyan colleges. My husband and I live in a senior retirement place in independent living and no longer have a car. He has had several strokes, and we don't travel distances. We worship online with the independent church where we're members and have been since before we moved here. Age changes our lives, but we enjoy our life here, and we're blessed to have our two children live not far away. I'm certainly blessed to have him still with me. God is good.

A beautiful and wonderful heritage of Christian songs. My grandmother's favourite was Blessed Assurance. Ilove all those meaningful old ones, as well as songs such as And can it be? from when I was a teen, and the more recent Jesus Messiah - name above all names, which has beautiful words. Best wishes for your Faith Flash entry. Hymns are a wonderful way to offer praise and worship.

Thank you for your beautiful review, Wendy. I love some of the new worship songs as well, but I fear our children's families will miss out since hymns are not sung as regularly in the churches; however I'm thankful that they worship.

I am so glad that I have read this. I am reading this at 1 o'clock in the morning because I have a very stressful night. I cannot quite get my mind to quiet down enough for me to go to sleep soundly. I too enjoy the hymns of faith. I am so glad that through the years I have learned many of the old hymns in our church, still sinks from a hymnal With all of the old hymns in it. One of my favorites is called moment by moment and it has a wonderful sound to it. I am thinking about writing something for my children, so that when I pass away that at my services they will have the audience sing that particular song. I admire your writing here very much and I feel exactly as you do about the songs of faith. Patricia .

Thank you so much for your wonderful review, Patricia. I can only hope that the mention of the hymns calmed your heart so you could sleep. I'm thankful that you are a sister in the Lord. I have left for my children a list of my favorite songs for a memorial service.

I love those old hymns, too. Now that we have moved, we have the electric piano in the living room and I plunk out the old hymns and am reminded of Scripture verses so well referenced in well metered poetry. No wonder we both love to write poems! Thanks for sharing you listed some of my favorites, too! Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you so much, friend, for this excellent, interesting review. Life, being what it is now, we enjoy our church, where we moved from, on-line, which has a blend of hymns and worship songs. As a rule, I love the hymns best, but there are some praise songs that I love, too, my favorite, "He Knows My Name." Thanks for the good wishes. I could visualize you plunking out the hymns. I'm glad I met you so we could share our lives from afar!

Thanks so much, Verna! I also love some of the worship songs but sometimes they get so repetitive. I rather have the repetition be actual Scripture - then it helps me memorize. Thankful for you, Verna! 💖
