I am not now, nor have I ever been a teacher of anyone nor anything. I have two older sisters who liked playing teacher. So, with our mom's permission I was given a preschool education long before it became an official thing. We are talking about the 1940s. They were even allowed to punish me, their student with reason. They even went as far as telling the teachers who would eventually become my teachers what I should already be proficient at. As a result, I was not allowed to be ignorant of any subject. On one occasion, I tested this theory and received three swats in front of the entire class. Needless to say, I did not repeat this test.

Lol, my sister did pretty much the same thing with me. What is it about older sisters?
On the other hand, she was the one who taught me all about Greek Mythology, and thus my book I'm posting about it now, lol.
Thanks for sharing,
Rhonda

I owe my success in life to the lessons I learned from my two sisters. As a matter of fact, I went on to surpass them in scholastic achievement.

Good for you. I'm sure they're very proud!!

Hello Rhonda,
This is a wonderful idea and a marvelous story. Teachers often do not know the impact they may have on students, and often the students are the ones you might not guess would be influenced. But little things and big things can equally change a life.
It appears you have influenced a number of students on many different levels.
I'd bet there are also many you don't even know about.
Best wishes to you (and all of your students)
Robert

Hi Robert, thank you for the six stars and the thoughtful review. I agree on how a teacher knows the effects on some, but on others, you have no idea. Thank you for your support for teachers everywhere. Sometimes it's a thankless job, but at others, you find those special moments!
Take care,
and thanks again,
Rhonda

Hi Kelly. What are b words? I'm glad I used them, lol, but not sure.
Was there improvement to be made? You left 4 stars, which is fine, but usually that means it needs improving. If so, how can I make it better?
Thank you,
Rhonda

As an educator myself, I love reading about others' experiences. This was well written and I would love to share a few of my own stories with you sometime. Well done!

Hi Xina! I'm so glad to hear you're a fellow teacher. There are so many things we have to share with each other, and I would love it if you would add to the book.
Take care,
Rhonda

Seeing this young man accomplish so much while under your guidance must have been wonderful. I admire teachers who put so much of themselves into their work.

You told an amazing story about your career as a teacher, Rhonda. I didn't know you had taught that many years, although I took an early retirement so that is the difference. When I got to your last story about this boy who hated school and made others afraid was very emotional when you got to the end of it.
He had shined in this contest you created for the kids, and is probably one of the few times he had felt success. How sad that no long after that, his family moved. I guess we can only hope that they go on to do well in whatever they choose to do. It is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching when you make a difference in their life, and they also touch yours.
This is a great idea for the site, and I hope you have success with it. I will add to it, but I need some time to think about what I would say. There are so many stories that are funny, heartwarming, and sad. Thanks for sharing the book and your story. Great job!!

Hi Pam,
Thank you for reviewing this piece. I write so much fantasy that I wanted to embark on something new. I, also, wanted a forum for other people to share as well.
I look forward to reading some of your experiences. I'm sure you have those that have stood out to you as well.
Take care, and thank you,
Rhonda

It is important for students to feel valued and have an interest in their studies and you devised a way for them to earn points to work towards a goal. I was surprised that you identified a student as a (would-be shooter). Those with low self esteem sometimes want to hurt those who are high achievers, a poignant post Rhonda, love Dolly x

Hi Dolly,
I appreciate your review and honest comments. They say many of the kids who cause outrageous crimes show signs ahead of time others choose to ignore. There was no ignoring this boy. He had hate written all over his face. I gave the kids the choice of working in a corporation or single proprietor. I was surprised when he chose to work in the group. I figured it was because he wanted the other students to do all the work. Maybe that was his plan to start with, then something in him changed when he found a way to be valuable. I don't know if it stuck with him or not, but for a moment in time, he belonged.
Take care,
Rhonda

As a teacher also, I loved your stories, especially about the gifted and talented boy. A couple of years ago, I wrote a series of stories about my own teaching experiences, and they were published in February in a small book, so I can't really post any chapters, because my favourite stories have all been read and reviewed. But I love your idea for this book and look forward to reading the stories of other teachers.

Wendy, that's exciting! I'll have to find them and read them. Maybe you could add a chapter about your book, sort of a summary, so others could look it up. I'm glad you wrote it!!
Take care,
Rhonda

This was a wonderful story. Going from hating everyone to love is a great accomplishment. The story was well written. Great details of the activities and the student's interactions. Nice complimentary picture.

Hi Derek, and thank you so much for the review. I'm going to start writing chapters in that book, and encourage others to as well. I will go deeper with stories and feelings at that point. I was hoping just for a prologue to allow others to put in stronger things, but I get your point. This probably comes across as too banal. Thank you for your honesty,
Rhonda
