Beth, This is a very good humor fiction you have penned. To me it's kind of sad when we get older and forget things we used to always remember. When I was diagnosed with MS in 2004, I had a really hard time remembering things. Thanks to the Lord I do better now. Thank you for sharing. love and blessings, Teri

Thank you Teri. It is sad and I would never do anything to make her feel bad about not remembering, but the things she says still make me smile. I hope if I get that bad what I say makes people smile too. We are better off smiling that crying, I think.

This sounds like a case of dementia I am familiar with as my mother and her sisters all had it in the form of Pick's Disease. Confusion is almost constant and then there are odd breakthroughs. My aunt, who had only met my husband at our wedding remembered him and his wedding. She did not know me or her sister. You have done a good job of making the confusion real.

THank you Carol. Yes, she does have dementia and she gets confused some days much more than others. She can be completely normal and suddenly come out with something really weird and funny.

Aww. My parents lived to 85 and 100. They each had good memories and speaking until mom's stroke muted her in many ways and it was a domino effect which confused my dad. My ain't from mom lived tp 104 and was talking up a stork. She knew everyone. My mom's other sister my godmother scolded the home Healthcare worker who introduced me when I arrive. She said, "I know who that is!" The rest of us can't assume if they mistake one thing that they are gone. It is hit or miss just as you have described so well here.
Best wishes,
Alex

Oh gosh dear Beth... Good for you for laughing about this...
I have been through it 3 times... First my dear Father in-Law... who was perfectly fine until his wife passed away at the young age of 68... Then my dear mother who knew she was losing it and passed away at 85 and my fathers young wife (I wrote about her) who had Alzheimer's and died at 76...
When they were confused it was way more stressful for them than for me...
My sister who is just one year younger than me...so she is only 75 years old is showing signs... and of course that is disturbing...

Thank you LIza. I've served as caregiver three time with my mother, my father and my husband. I am too far away from my cousin but I cheer her up by listening when she calls. I think it is better to laugh than to cry.

This story, Who's My Mama?, is an interesting and humorous situation that takes reality and minimizes it to the passing notions of the harmless recognition of age.

I'm glad you found it interesting and humorous. I'm sorry she is getting dementia but things she says are very amusing sometimes.

You are correct about a lot of elderly folks. Yet, some retain a miraculously sound mind until the end. My aunt lived to be over one hundred, and she could still recall all the details of her life and never forgot a person's name.

Thank you for the review and comments. My cousin has a great memory about her earlier life. She tends to be a bit paranoid by thinking others are out to get her or don't like her but she always had that trait.

I just came from reading about a son looking after his dementia ridden dad, it's so sad Beth, I think my daughter's father in law was mildly suffering, but she was his carer. He's passed now, but he was a good patient, it's so sad, well done, blessings Roy

Yes, it is sad. I don't mind talking to my cousin as it seems to make her feel better. No one wants to lose their mental abilities. I know I don't but we never know what is ahead.

Good morning, Beth,
You have done a masterful job of portraying an individual who is challenged by dementia, Alzheimer's, old age confusion.
My mother suffered from dementia before she passed away, and the two of us experienced very similar conversations.
I appreciated the calmness and empathy with which your responded to your cousin.
A very fine offering.
Thank you for sharing!

Thank you Diane. This is so easy to write becuase I just put down what we say to each other. I really don't mind talking to her as it seems to help.

This is such a terrible disease and causes the sufferer to become confused Beth and your dialogue here is typical and accurate. I am sorry your cousin is deteriorating like this and I wish they could find a cure for it. Love Dolly x x x

Thank you Chuck. I forget names and how tp spell words, but not family members yet. I do all kind of trivia and crossword to keep my mind going. I don't want to lose that.
