I'm not so sure this is silly Tom. Sounds torturous and gruesome. The good thing is most of us have this shared experience.

You are a witty soul, my friend. Keep at it!

being deboned and filleted isn't funny? Sure, the operation may have been of necessity but the patient's mental description is comedic, yes?

Clever painful and a tad funny.

I pray it was the effects of anesthesia that had you finding laughter is being "scaled, deboned and stitched." Oh yeah, and using detergent, you say. I think I would cross him off my list of referrals. Good luck with your poem, the contest, and the scar.

Smiles, Carol

I am an improved man from the 13 varied procedures endured. Three rotor cuffs, three knees including two replacements, two elbow scopes, an achilles tendon, a double hernia, one back fusion, and open heart surgery, and one cataract. Lee Majors had little on me save for youth and strength.

Hi Tom,
This is a good limerick that seems to joke that your doctor for surgery was not a good one. Using detergent to sterilize is a good hyperbole.
I like the preparing fish metaphor for surgery,
Benadryl for that itch sounds smart.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Have a nice rest of the day.

Ouch! Very clever, but I'm not getting the 'silly'. I found this a hard contest to come up with anything silly. After, reading most of the entries, I feel I'm not alone. So, with that, I wish you no disrespect only good luck with the competition.

Scaled deboned and cut like a sturgeon (a fish) ain't funny? I guess you would have to be there to think hilariously, especially coming out from anesthesia.

Oh, that was very funny, but I didn't think it was silly. I'll bet some of that post anesthesia was silly, it usually is. It's one of the best on here.

I wonder if the surgeon brought a sterile solution but you thought it was detergent?
the surgery must have been a stitched-up process that left you feeling like a fish! Ouch!

Aah. It is metaphorically written, and humorous in a wry sort of way,
    don't you agree?

I enjoyed your limerick. It was silly, as it was supposed to be. This is definitely dark humor, but it is humor nonetheless. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

That would be silly and probably painful too. As someone who has had many surgeries over the years and stitch scars on my abdomen your line about being filleted. Thanks for the belly laughs. And Sharing your post

This is an excellent silly poem for the contest
that many will find humorous.
I would get a new surgeon, at the very least.
Nicely done.
Good luck in the contest.

It's good to have humor about surgeries which tend to have nothing good about them in the pleasure realm. I love your metaphor with gutting a fish. Perfect match!
Best of luck. Julie
