I love this chapter and the book in general.

Heddy's mom is so nice to the Lester but I would not let her daughter go with him alone. Those were different times. Now with the stranger danger parents are more cautious.

Love it! Can't wait for the next chapter. :)

I dont understand 'cotton' in this sentence.....
"My daddy went there as a child but said he didn't really cotton to a lot of their teachings."

Thank you so much. I'm glad you are enjoying this. Saying you don't cotton to something means you don't agree or can't abide by something. I've heard it all my life. I forget it could be a regional term. Thank you again. Gretchen

Hello Gretchen,
It's always fun to read your stories. This was a bit of an unexpected twist. Sounds like the postmistress is a real bag. It's going to be interesting to see what happens. I feel bad for Lester, but maybe meeting Heddy will provide a little joy to his young life. Well done gal.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

I think once Heddy can get past the "He's a boy" thing, they'll get along nicely. Thank you again for this awesome review and the support for this story. Gretchen

Ahh, Poor Lester. I'm unsure where this is going for Lester. I'm sure it won't be as bad for Heddy as she thinks. I can actually visualize Lester. LOL.

Nonni will help keep things in order.

Best, JohnC

I really enjoy all of the Americanisms and Southernisms here that create such a vivid sense of time and place. Poor Heddy - the ignominy of having to spend time with a boy! :)

I think Heddy is in for a very interesting summer. I can't wait to read more.

"I was thinking we could walk to the post office to mail our letters to your Aunt." (because of 'your' there should be a lower case 'a' on 'aunt')

Lester sneaks a glance at me and I frown. (comma after 'me' you switched subjects)

He nods excitedly, casting a quick look at his Aunt. (because of 'his' lower case 'a' on 'aunt.')

It was kind to invite him for a day at the beach. Heddy may be for a surprise and realize there's much more to this young man than she first thought. I hope their day together goes well.

Yes, I remember parents wanting to make us friends with cootie-filled strangers. What If I had walked up to my mother and said You like Coca-Cola, and Jerry the Bum here loves Jack and Coca-Cola. You two should be pals! She would faint on the spot. hahaha Karen

Lol. Very true. But Heddy has been mentioning see and talking to her dead grandmother so maybe mom has a right to be concerned. Thank you for this entertaining review. Gretchen

I see nothing wrong with her seeing her grandma. There were dishes in the sink. !

That poor boy. I'm sure the aunt won't help him out in the clothes department, or anything else. I do hope Heddy gets to like him and they become friends. He certainly needs one. I'll be watching out for more. Another lovely chapter, Gretchen. :)) Sandra xx

Thank you so much. I'm glad you liked this. Lester was my father's name so this kid already has a place in my heart. Lol. Gretchen

Aw, that's nice. It's funny, but Kendria, in my book, came with my father in mind, his name was Ken. And why shouldn't we keep them alive through our writing? xxxx

I enjoyed the story. I can understand how Heddy feels. He mom feels sorry for kid an feels his aunt may be too hard on him and he need a change to enjoy the beach. Heddy feels she being used and isn't somethng she wants to do with her time. I know the feeling. It sounds like something my mother would have done.

Most mothers would do that. Besides, mom is worried about Heddy who talks to deceased grandmother. Thank you for this. Gretchen

I looks like the boy Willis coming to stay and Heddy isn't impressed, and seems to think that Willis might be some sort of sissy, but hopefully it won't be like that. Heddy doesn't seem to like her hair being brushed, that might change in a couple of years, well done Gretchen, good job, blessings Roy
