This is a typical poem by you, Charity. It points out some of the problems that society has. The government is spending all kinds of money on illegal immigrants while many of our citizens are dying in the streets.

This sounds like a great rap song Charity and I can just hear you giving this some rhythm on the streets and being cheered along by the crowd as they all identify with your words here. Life has become a battle these says and I wonder who hears our cries for justice. A fine post, I wish I had a six left for you, love Dolly x x x

Raw, visceral, compelling. We are given thousands of chances, we sometimes are too mad, sad, or unhealthy to see them. As long as you are kicking, you are winning. Do not let others define you. You have talent and a voice. Use both. Karen :-)

Wow, this poem sounds like a street fight from every ghetto, you can hear the echo:) sorry I didn't mean to be insensitive, but this is what sparked my imagination.

I certainly caught the ominous mood here. Some of your descriptions were powerful, like the grease in a pan, a strong simile. I'm guessing your distressing as a prisoner of the city where it feels there's little chance to see the green beyond the concrete collapse of life. Well told. A teachable moment for me.

Not only your poetic voice but your real voice comes through loud and clear. You speak of the wrongs in our society and stand up for the street people. Thank you for being that voice.

Charity,
This is a powerful piece of writing, as are all your pieces. Through most of this, I was left with head-lifting thoughts.

This piece speaks of a victim of society but reveals that you have dedicated your life to fixing what's wrong in your reality. I thought in the beginning how self-absorbed and woeful this piece was turning out to be. But then, I realized that you possess all the rights to those feelings and emotions.

Powerful and subliminally selfless, my friend. Best, JohnC

A very well written poem that gives voice to people living on the streets. You listed many compelling points about the cycle of poverty and violence, yet even in the midst, there is personal valor.

Take care,
Rhonda

This is a brilliant poem, Charity. The primary reason being it gives hope to marginalized people who after years and years of being dealt injustice have been falsely led to believe that is because they are defective and have made poor choices.

When in truth there are many systemic barriers that stand in the way of many people not having a chance to live the American dream. I was particularly moved by the part about blue-collar workers not having access to loans and government grants to further their education.

Keep on writing and maybe one day others might realize the entire system creates these impossible situations for many people.

Thank you for sharing.

Gloria
