I loved the sentence, "Retirement had changed my husband's personality." That says a lot - and it sounds like retirement suited him after all the stress of being at his job. Also, it's great that you both saved wisely to help your children as well as have a good retirement! Great choice in the move!

Thank you Helen. Yes retirement made him a more laid back and a much happier person. He was certainly not lazy, but he and my twins aren't inclined to work for anyone other than themselves. Carol and I didn't want the responsibility of owning our business. Connie can go either way. She is kitchen designer for Home Depot but she has a side business of her own.

Isn't it wonderful to see how different our genes get carried on by the next generation?

As I read your story about decision making after retirement, It reminded me of my husband and I. We lived in a big city...Philadelphia. My husband wanted to move south and took a trip to Marietta Ga. to look at houses. The next year, we both took a trip to Atlanta. We eventually moved to Florida.

You are moving from one state to another and are in for some challenges and adventures. I look forward to following your trip.

Thank you for the excellent review. I wouldn't like living anywhere near Atlanta. Florida is a good choice if you don't mind the heat.

Reading about how girls treated each other in Connie's class reminded me of my days in school. Damn, girls turned on each other regularly and for no apparent reason.

It sounds like your kids have become more serious and settled down to see what they want to do with the rest of their lives in this chapter. Finally, parenting pays off and retirement is within grasp.

Thank you Pam. Afterward working with bunch of women I think a lot of girls never grew up. Some turn on each other in the work place as well. Yes the kids were starting to get serious but sometime their decisions backfired

Decisions, decisions. I can certainly.unferstand the difficulty of it all, Beth. But Chattanooga sounds like a good bet. I'm so fascinated with your life story, Beth. Ulla xx

Goodness! Such tumultuous times. Nicely written.
Good on Evan that he could retire early.
I've been through Atlanta a number of times and couldn't agree more that the traffic is horrendous.
Best wishes.

Thank you Wayne. I hate I-75 from Chattanooga toward Atlanta. I use it toward Knoxville all the time and I don't seem to have a problem in that direction.

For an Australian, reading this piece is giving me a whistle stop tour of the South. As someone who has rarely moved house, this sounds absolutely exhausting! I understand how challenging schools can be and how it is to deal with unhappy teenagers, not because I have any, but because I work with them. Thanks for the share.

Thank you for the review and comment. I have many Australians on my fan list and I feel I am getting to know more about your world. Also one of my daughters spent six weeks there, and I started to I wouldn't get her back. She loved it.

Hi Beth,
I still haven't found the post about the fire, but I found your new one, so yay!

Moves are ugly things, aren't they? I used to live in a town near Marrietta called Douglasville. It's a pretty area.

How long did you live in the house you rebuilt? Was your husband able to remain the Project Manager of the rebuild?

Well writte, as all the others, and a great way to leave a family story!

Take care,
Rhonda

Thank you Ronda. I'm familiar with the name Douglasville but I'm not sure I've been there. It was my son, who was able to be the contractor for the house. He did good job although he was only 21 at the time. I think we were there less than three years after we rebuilt. The story about the fire still has about ten hours before it exprires. It is called When it Rain in Pours. If your looking in my portfolio for it, it is under the book title Chasing the Elusive Dream

Yes, I'm certainly glad for you to get back into your family story. It even has me believing I know the characters to some degree. Real people, and a real family, aggravations and all. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

You've managed to move around a fair bit in your married life Beth, an fortunate enough to own a fair choice of variation as a residence, we've lived in our house since 1977, but you've still got to make sure your kids are secure with their future, well done, blessings, Roy
Typo : it('s) a true story

Thank you Roy. Yes we've moved a bit. I've been in this house 22 years but I'll likely move again because this house is way too big for one person.

A great continuation of your book, Beth. A bit more settled than the last one! But nice just to read about family life and decisions rather than trauma! Always interesting to read. X
