This was a very well written account of what happens all too often. I grew up watching this. My dad would go out and drink, come home, and beat my mother. My mother would nag and yell, then they would get in an argument and instead of talking about their problems she would write pages and pages to him about how horrible things were for her. In the meantime, I was stuck in the middle. When I grew up, I was determined not to be like that. I wasn't as bad, but I was hard on my kids, physically. I did apologize when I went a bit far. Later, I found out that I was Bipolar, which would have been great to know when my kids were little. Now, one of my daughters is in an abusive relationship, and has lost custody of one of her kids due to the guy, but she won't leave him because she "loves" him.

I'm sorry to hear that. Yes, these kinds of issues are rampant in my family as well. I call it the generational madness. Has affected certain members of the family deeply, so I truly understand. I wish best of luck for you and your daughters and hope only for the best. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for this amazing reading and review for which I'm quite grateful. I hope you have the best holiday in Santa. Brings everything you need thanks again!

This was beautiful. Your use of sentence fragments was amazing. It was overall a great story, but it makes me feel bad for all those involved. Though my style is drastically different than yours, it was a great snippet.

Thank you Avery! It's very glad you like it! Thank you for your time for your kind words and your great rating. I'm very pleased to receive it. This is part of book 2A series of 3. If you wish to read others first. Book is called ghost and this one is called spector you're welcome to take a peek in my portfolio, if you. Thank you again.I hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday and an awesome evening!

Your chapter is raw and powerful, capturing a range of intense emotions and experiences. The vivid descriptions and shifts between past and present provide a rich, immersive reading experience.

This is an interesting chapter because it shows how innocent children are, and that your presence helped serve as a calming influence and perhaps a mirror at the same time. Here is a particularly effective description:
She had a silk scarf around her neck so the children didn't see the marks. It seems Mrs. D. was also limited to an extent by limited English as well.

Absolutely true and you hit the nail right on the head! Mrs. D had broken English for the most part. Thank you for your insightful review as always. I appreciate all your words and your fine rating too. Thank you very much. Hope you have a grand evening!

The natural fighter in you had you come to the rescue of Mrs. D and fight on her behalf. Your insight and kindness led you to bring the children to a safer place so they would not have to see the violence their father was inflicting on their mother. It is a good thing you were in that house that night. You probably saved Mrs. D's life.

For those of us who grew up in a violent world we either learned to get tough and fight back or we'd have been destined to a life of a victim. It appears you learned to fight back or at least to some degree. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, your stuff is hard to read because I too lived with violence for a considerable time. You write very expressively and well. You are a brave writer. Karen

Thank you so much, Karen. I'm really sorry you had to go through that too. You and I both know. And sometimes wonder how we made it through, but we never come through unscathed. Abuse doesn't stop when you leave the abuser. That hangs with you so I understand. Thank you so much for commenting for reading. I know it's tough so I especially thank you for it. I hope you have the grand evening!

My current ex told me that I kinda had Ptsd. Things would set me off from time to time. We find ways to cope but it is still there. Love you brave lady.

Thank you for sharing this post with us. I'm afraid, it's because you're living there, but this man has probably done it before and often.
I sat them down on the coach. (couch??)
"Stay here ok? (comma after 'here')
Your Dad went for a drive and your mom's upstairs okay? (lower case 'd' on 'dad' because of 'my' and comma after 'upstairs')
maybe it will be different for you." I said. (comma after 'you')
"No." She said again. (comma after 'No,' and lower case 's' on 'she')

Wow. Riveting chapter. This must be what she instinctively saw in you when she invited you to stay in her home: someone who understand and would help. And, oh, how you did. That's a wise comment, too, that realization takes a while to catch up.
Really, really well-done chapter, Lea, that deserves a six that I don't have. I'll promote this, though, and get it up high and entice people to read it.

This was a very powerful scene, Lea. I could feel the emotion, particularly with the children crying for their mother. I was kept engaged right the way through.
