Preaching to the choir here Earl. When everyone must be special and everyone gets awards whether you earn them or not, I think the world had gone flakey. Truths are truths whether we like them or not.
You don't like the products ads don't by the product. Budweiser was a bit of a dim bulb forgetting who drinks their products, I am with you on that. Nice to meet someone with a brain.:-) Karen

Great job with your rant, Earl! And I agree! It seems people don't know how to think for themselves anymore. And no, we can't judge the past by today's standards. I see that you posted this last year and hope it did well in the contest. It's still completely relevant today. We have to stop having people being controlled by social media and for people to unify and listen to sane and objective news!

They can cancel culture all they want to. They will never change the fact all these events took place historically.

People need to get a life and realize, like them or not, these occasions are true and really did happen.

Trying to delete them now will never erase the facts they were/are part of what made America the country it is.

Would think these people would find more important things to worry about, such as some of the real problems occurring in the world these days, and how to resolve them.

I liked reading this very much. I think you did a good job. I had not even heard of the Land O'Lakes packaging deal, but if I ever did notice it, I probably would only have thought they wanted to emphasize the O to draw the consumers' eyes to the package. One of the books I love from my grandma's house fifty years ago is Little Black Sambo. But other versions of the book must have been more derogatory than the one we had. The one I had made the little boy seem so much smarter than the four self-serving tigers. And I was in love with the idea of eating as many buttery pancakes as possible. But it seems you cannot even mention Little Black Sambo anywhere without getting called racist. Even worse, the Little House on the Prairie series author, Laura Ingalls Wilder, was removed from an award by the American Library Association, even though it was not the author herself who had any racist opinions. The fact that the Land O'Lakes artist that helped with the maiden's look was actually Ojibwe should have nullified the criticisms. One of the things that bugged me more recently was that national newspapers and TV stations virtually ignored what our past American president did on holidays and never published a single instance of when he would frequently hand out wads of cash to citizens.
One fix:
If it had one gold button on the front if they served in World War I and two for the second world war.

Well done, sir. Also, thank you for your service. I couldn't agree more, and I feel like this is on the tip of many tongues, yet they're too scared to speak for fear of being called a racist. Have white people died at the hands of police brutality? Absolutely, yet it doesn't make the news. I sympathize with any victims of hate, yet it's getting out of hand. All lives matter should be the only bumper sticker we see, yet it's become divisive. The references to previous "racist" films highlights how much humor has died and political correctness has taken its place. Can't we all just get along? I enjoyed this, thank you for posting.

Inflammatory? That is the whole point of your rant. While I am center left, I agree with most of your rant. Fanuell Hall here is a long standing and we'll known tourist attraction in Boston. Every so often, a group wants the name change because Peter Fanuell owned slaves as was common at the time. Apparently he was also a patriot.
Punishment for 19th century thinking in this day and age is unnecessary.

Such an interesting post. I agree with your sentiments. I didn't know anything about Jason Aldean's song being "cancelled." It's a cute song, and I agree with it's concepts. I grew up in small towns, and when we moved to California, it was so weird that neighbors didn't know each other, even though our houses were so close you could spit into your neighbor's window. I didn't see any typos. Or if there were any, I was so engaged in reading I didn't notice them.

By the time I finished reading this, I wanted to stand up and cheer! I am not American, but I am a student of history - and that includes American history - particularly the eras of The Revolutionary and Civil wars.

So when Americans (or anyone else for that matter) disparage one of the most honorable of all time, Bobby Lee, I get very angry! A man who was the best of the best, and the obvious choice of Lincoln to lead the Northern armies, who replies, "I cannot in all conscience, Mr.President, draw my sword against Virginia" has my undying support!

If you only mentioned Lee I would have agreed with this article - but, though I have constantly supported 'Black Lives Matter', to act like 'therefore the truth doesn't' is an absurdity. Many of the people mentioned who are vilified are victims themselves - and truth is a casualty in all cases.
Far more to say in response to this article of straight common sense - but you are entirely correct. Six stars? No doubt.

I think this is a great post. You wrote about my sentiments, exactly. I think the US is on a downhill slide. We need to get back to the values we grew up with. I liked your ideas for solutions. Thanks for sharing. Sarah

Hi Earl,

It's been going this way for a while now. A society of victims is a sad society indeed.

The German veterans were the same kind of cap.- should that be wear?

History isn't there to be liked or disliked. It's there to learn from.- the following is a post I had on my profile page earlier this year. - History is not there for you to like or dislike.
It is there for you to learn from it.
And if it offends you, even better.
Because then you are less likely to repeat it.
It's not yours to erase or destroy....

couldn't agree more.

now has warnings before the movie that it depicts Native Americans in a bad light- need end punctuation here.

Just a head-up at the end, you've turned the required statement around. It should be now I feel better. it may not matter but I've seen posts disqualified for less.

All the best
G
