Debi, I saw your most recent post in my message box and when I began reading, something was amiss. I missed this chapter.
Yeah, now the fab five are off the boat and safe, for now!
Nicely posted.

lol That goat imagery was fun to read. He has to wait longest? But, still, manners! lol Your writing sounds so authentic in my mind and the relationships created between our heroine and her unexpected friends, is so detailed and realistic. I hope there is more! Much enjoyed!
Best wishes,
Alex :))

Hi Alex,
Yes, the poor goat was last, but finally, he is off the ship and out with his buddies. Thank you for the encouraging comments about the writing.
Have a great week.

Sometimes you just have to party with the goats, Debi.
Ha!
Now, is there really such a thing as goat stew? I find that a hard one to swallow. (I know, that was a pathetic pun, but I could not help myself.)
Fun read.

Hi Douglas,
Thank you for the fun review. Yes, there is really such a thing as goat stew. I haven't eaten it myself, but I know people who have. Most of the people I know who have goats use them for milk and cheese because their kids have allergies to cow's milk. They are considered pets more than livestock to them.
Have a great week.

I like how you managed to give a personality to animals through Ava's observations. Voice is a hard thing for any writer to manage, and you do it masterfully in these simple, brief chapters, so it's easy to stay invested.

Goats are famous for contrariness. I felt sad that there was no one to celebrate with. I hope she can salvage plenty of food for her plenty of food. I wonder wat will happen now..

That dern pesky goat! Although sorry for the gentleman who's been getting nasty bruises, when I picture the scene in my mind. It actually makes me chuckle, so thank you so much for the smile, I appreciate that!
Having said that, it's chapter very well written amusing and tragic. At the same time, you write very concisely to a point where there's no doubt what's going on. My interest was captured from the first word to the last word. Because you written it so very well.
I see no issues with spelling sentence structure or subjectmatter. You've got a nice piece of magic here. It's a great submission and I wish you best of luck!

Hello Debi,
Four horses and a goat. Sounds like an old TV show. Now if they can only talk like Mr Ed with Wilbur. Since they're all named after mythological figures,
perhaps that is where this story is going.
This chapter is just as entertaining as the other ones, maybe more so. I like calling him Goat, rather than Grendel. Goat soup sounds so much better than Grendel soup.
Well done, I think there may be much more to come.
Best wishes.

Hi Robert,
I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. I agree, goat soup sounds better than Grendel soup.
Thank you for the great comments and the six star rating. Both are much appreciated.

What a harrowing day with four horses and a difficult goat! I could see you in my mind's eye as you traipsed off to get some nourishment. Good call.
A delightful chapter for the book, Debi.
Sending you my best today as always, and blessings to you and yours.

A good image and chapter to go with it, Debi. I guess the goat was the smallest, but the biggest pain. Ava had her hands full, and she had to be scared out of her wits when the elevator door closed. After all of her work to get the animals to safety, she went through a lot with this goat.
She's lucky there is still enough food and snacks left, as well as hay for the horses. I think Ava chose the right name for the goat. I could feel Ava's pain every time she fell, trying to get the goat to follow the horses. But she was able to enjoy watching "the pastoral scene below." I also like the greeting card, calendar reference.
I don't blame her for not wanting anything to do with the elevator, and the ending was bittersweet. I don't have a guess where the story is headed, but I imagine you have some ideas that won't disappoint. Maybe it is Ava's turn for some good fortune with everything she has done so far. I am enjoying the story. Have a great day and rest of your week.

Hi Pam,
What a delightful review. I'm happy you liked the chapter and appreciate the kind comments about the writing. You are so right about that elevator. At least it worked long enough to free the animals. Yes, that goat was an issue. I've been around a few and they are mischievous creatures. I think they love to play jokes on people and to get their own way.
Have a great weekend.
Debi

You are very welcome and deserving of the review, Debi. Thanks for the insight about the elevator and the goats. You have a great weekend, too. Is there going to be more to this story?
-
Yes, there will be more. It is already written. The delay is due to me being the caregiver for my mother. She had a fall on November 1 and it limited her mobility greatly for several weeks. She didn't leave the house during that time and was limited to her room, the bathroom, and a sitting room. She couldn't get the walker into the kitchen so I had to do a bit of fetch and carry when she needed things. I was worried about her mood and spent a lot of time just trying to cheer her up. She is just now starting to move around which frees me up to get back to writing and posting. I need to do some reviewing to build up my bank and hope to post early next week.
Thank you for asking.

Thanks for sharing everything, Debi, and I am sorry you had so much to deal with. I am glad she is able to get around a little bit. Thoughts are with you, and we will look forward to your next post. Take care and have a great day and week ahead.
