This is another excellent chapter. Moving the heavy wagon was very interesting. Ben came through as usual. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

Thank you for your kind review.

As a lifetime owner, breeder, and trainer of thoroughbred horses, I can say that sometimes it's nearly impossible to get one horse to do what you'd like it to. But getting 56 horses to pull a cable or anything would be a feat for God or his chosen one. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

LOL. Right you are.
An interesting life, I'm learning you lead.
You ever read "The Man Who Listens to Horses" by Monte Roberts?
Highly recommended!

I have read "The Man Who Listens to Horses." I've met Monte Roberts years ago. He did a wonderful job of packing and selling an old technique of tiring out horses in deep sand and making his name as the horse whisperer. :-)

I'm envious!
Do you remember the part where his school teacher rejected his dream of becoming a thoroughbred trainer? His name was Fowler - just glad he was not kin.

Yes, so many times in life people tell us we can't do something. Mr. Smith wrote his college thesis on creating Federal Express. His college professor gave him a C, telling him it was a nice idea but totally unrealistic and impossible. The message is framed on the wall behind his desk.

This is a good chapter. I like that when Ben prays God answers his prayers quickly giving him the strength to do what needs to be down. I do believe there are angels around us and that can be called into action quickly. I've felt their presence more than once.

Thank you very much.

You had some quite graphic description of Ben jumping into action and rescuing the beaten horse, then advising them how it could be done. Some good writing!
The white hat [This is probably the 10th time I've heard mention of "the white hat". What the heck is a white hat. Did you ever explain its significance? Whether they were forces of good or evil? I know I've mentioned my confusion before, but never got an answer.]
then connect them to an obviously over-size wagon [... oversized wagon]
Overall, an exceptionally well written chapter.

Thank you.
Yes. Clyde proposed that he provide guards for Ben a few chapters back. They would wear white hats with yellow bands. They would try to stay out of Ben's way, but be there to protect him. This was the end of that , though.

There never seems to be a dull moment in Ben's life. If he isn't evading bad guys, he's helping install trolley cables. He's a quick thinker with a lot of common sense and a strong sense of morality who always thinks about others and their safety and comfort.
I like how you wove this actual event with the cable into your story. It was well written, Wayne. - Jim

First of all, that was a really interesting re-telling of the 56 horses, placing Ben in the scene and having him become the one in charge. And I love that he came to the aid of animals.
Do we know who tried to have his knees broken?
A good chapter, Wayne. A little tension when the horse was whipped!

Well, thought we'd have some action today then, and boy did we get some action. Exciting and dramatic and excellently narrated. Well done, as usual.

Thank you. I thought a little action that wasn't fighting might be a good relief. The 56 horse team was fascinating research.

Yeah, amazing stuff.

I was so glad to see that Ben was able to prevent cruelty to the horses. The men would have flogged the animals to death, poor things. And good that he was able to rescue his security man before another bad shanghai event.
Looking forward to more.

Thank you. I was fascinated by the 56 horse team affair. It was a true story (except for Ben's involvement). smiley face here

I like how you surprise us giving Ben superhuman powers (or angelic help) sometimes. But it is getting too dangerous for his security detail. Yet, Ben knows it's safe if it's God's will. It's interesting that at first Ben didn't feel "called" to help with the horse teams but sprang into action when animal abuse was about to happen. I hope he prayed then, too!
Questions:
Chalmers did respond. (did respond? or didn't? because he didn't say anything)
So he left and I wonder if the recruits were paid.

Thank you.I fixed the Chalmers confusion. I appreciate your keen eye.

This was an especially good chapter as Ben helped prevent animal cruelty to the horses, got his point across to a big brute with an ax handle, and he also rescued his white-hatted guard. Ben's guardian angel must have been working overtime.
