I confess I'm afraid of snakes. I can't imagine coming face to face with one as a child. You told your story in an interesting way that captured the reader's attention. Blessings and best wishes in the contest. Carol

lol That was a scary time for me. I thought I had accomplished my goal of putting the hose around the tree limb to tie the knot so we could swing from it. Not the case! lol love and blessings, Teri

Love & blessings to you also.

This story, The Green Snake, finds that moment when your entire life likely passed before your eyes as the serpent slithered nearer during this most vulnerable time.

This is a cute story. I think most little girls are afraid of snakes. Once my mom sent me out to did some potatoes from the garden. I reach for what I thought was a potato but it a snake and slid through my hand. I screamed and ran.

A really enjoyable conveying a sense of the sheer surprise of the young girl realising a snake was so close in the vicinity. Well told and holds the reader's attention.

You big baby! Green tree snakes are harmless. Just as well you don't live here. We have the most venomous snakes in the world. When I lived in the country (where they are prolific) my three cats would bring juvenile red-bellied black snakes in for me. I ended up throwing the cats outside and closing all the windows! K xx

Oh my gosh!!!! What a terrifying experience, lol. I admire your desire to climb a tree. Tying a hose to swing on, definitely cool, but the snake, not so cool. Hehe. I'm sure your friend got a big laugh.
Cool story, thanks for sharing,
Rhonda

Hi Teresa, a fine story which conveyed your fear of snakes very evocatively. When you're that young, everything seems that much more frightening although I accept that this fear has remained with you. I would actually put - "They scared me so (badly)" which would sound better. But a good entry for this contest. Good luck! Debbie

I love the way you told the story, Teri! You brought me right into your ten-year-old self's way of thinking! I could see how that event would shock you. Even more shocking is that your friend would enjoy playing with the green snake! Hope this does well in the contest!
Suggestion for these two sentences would be to use "its" for the possessive form:
was on it's way down the tree. (its)
Apparently we had messed up it's nap time in the tree. (its)

What isn;t there to enjoy in childhood memories most told. There are those deep dark secretive tales that should be told to a psychologist, but snakes ain't one of them. I've been bitten by more dogs than eely creatures.

Have you written about your encounters with the dogs that bit you? I have been bitten once by our granddog, Gus. One day I will try to remember to write about it. Thanks for the great review and comments. Blessings, Teri
-
Never wrote about it but it was a German Shepard who Hid in a bush. I didn?t see it. He came out as I passed and snapped at my heels. I hit him with my fishing pole.
-
I bet his bite hurt worst than your fishing pole. Our son's dog, Gus, a Golden Retriever is usually very nice and calm until they put some baby chicks on the top of where he was sitting. I reached in to pet the baby chicks and then put my hand in to Gus to pet him and that is when it happened! I ended up with three stitches. I was not mad at Gus because it was my fault. I figured since those chicks were chirping and annoying him he thought of them as a mini snack, but my hand was the next best thing! lol
-
I was at a private home with a good size pond, a bridge to the changing room by the pool. The dog was on guard. He did his job. Oh, I had permission.
-
oh no! I bet that had to hurt!
-
I kept fishing!
