Well. It's a lovely dream which you have written in an intellectual and compelling manner. Alas I fear that human beings will always ruin any dream. Animal Farm is a good example.

Thank you for a fascinating walk through these philosophies which offer such rewards if followed correctly. Your introduction skilfully hooks the reader in and your prose is expressed well and with only one error (2nd para under the picture - imminent). Thanks for sharing your wisdom, Debbie

Dear Cogitator, I haven't met you before, but I am very impressed by this article. I have read it twice now. I studied comparative religions when I read theology in London. Later, in Primary Schools, I taught the basics of these systems to Grade 6 students.
With regard to the Dao, I wonder if you would allow a comparison with a part of Christian doctrine called Christology, which I taught in Seminaries. In the Gospel of St. John (though not exclusively) the expression 'The Word' of God refers directly to Jesus. The Greek background of this expression (ho Logos) means the undergirding foundation of the universe, the logical beginning of all things that exist - in other words a profound name for the Creator and Sustainer.
As I read your excellent explanation of Dao, the two words in their philosophical form are not very different - but in their application they have taken different forms of expression.
I have several friends who are practising Buddhists, and I was aware of the Noble 8-fold Path, and it is admirable. So much so, that it challenges those of other religions to live a much better ethical life, respect nature and the planet far more, and turn from consumers into stewards of all that surrounds them
I am sure that people reading your most enlightening article will be challenged to consider a better way of life, and I thank you for showing us these important lessons.
