This is great. My aunt killed herself at age 33, back in 1968--because her parents and siblings refused to accept she was a Lesbian.
I was fifteen, and I still miss her!
How sad that as far as we've come, people are still hiding, pretending, or God forbid, dying!

Congratulations on your milestone post! This reminds me of a friend of mine. He wasn't so much in the closet as he just held a coathanger in front of his face once in a while. LOL. Your story was sweet. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

That's hysterical about the coat hanger. Thank you for this awesome review and congratulations as well. Gretchen

It's a shame that we can't even tell a harmless fictional story without have to worry who we might offend or piss off. Excuse the term. There is room in this world for all of us . . . long as we stay on our own side of the fence. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I usually don't forewarn but this time I did. I don't have a problem moving past something that offends me. Others do. Thank you for this awesome review. Gretchen

Congratulations on 750 posts. I joined FanStory in 2020, and that sounds like a tremendous amount of writing. I'm inspired.
I enjoyed reading the delicate way you wrote a fictitious story about a contemporary subject that included a wise lesson at the end. The world is a better place when people are free to be who they really are, without being ridiculed.
I agree with your statement about being free to scroll on. I do it when I'm not interested in a subject or when the writing is too bad to critique.

I'm not offended, my son, Angel is gay and she came out in her teens. I always loved them (them is the pronoun Angel prefers. They was born as a girl and for years we called them Angelica, until recently when they asked. Angel told me they didn't mind if I still call them "she and her or Angelica, and I must admit it's taking me a while to adapt to the they pronoun that Angel prefers. But I love they, Angel so much I don't care if they is gay. Angel is a beautiful person, kind, intelligent, talented... just perfect the way they is.
When Angel was a teenager they brought many gay friends that I always loved and accepted them as they are. Many called me Mom. A lot of then came from homophobic families who abused them and they just wanted to be accepted and loved, as we all do. They are humans like you and me.
Anyway, I like your story. It's done with respect and from a neutral point of view. Well done.

Angel sounds wonderful. I'm glad this resonated with you. I had a cousin who hid his homosexuality until he wS in his twenties. When he finally admitted to being gay, the family turned on him. It was like he was dead. So sad and needless. Thanks for this. Gretchen
Comment from Brett Matthew West
In first line, "uncle Marion" should be Uncle Marion.
"possible say" should be possibly say.
Should be careful when making assumptions about someone, or something. May get more than bargained for.
His being gay really is none of their concern, not in the grand scheme of things.
"in to our group" should be into our group.
In Notes, if someone does not like what you wrote they can, as you stated "just scroll on." No one is forcing anyone to read anything. You have my full support on that matter.

Yes. I scroll on a few things here. Not my taste or something I find offensive, I scroll on. If I'm offended, it's my problem. I've gotten a scolding from time to time on here. Lol. Cest LA vie. Gretchen
Comment from Carol Hillebrenner
This is delightful as the younger people want to make sure they do not make their uncle feel bad. But they also want him to feel free to be gay. It is wonderful news that his wife was his best friend. But uncle was right. They should have asked, not assumed. Very well written and the story unfolds in the kindest way it could.

Of course, it isn't homophobic, Gretchen. You told this little
situation in a way it could probably be true. You did a great job.
Yes, we all make assumptions esp now the way society is going.
But really those tow are unrelated. Your story was heartfelt
between the characters and not dependent on the woker jokers
out to condemn all. Your words were well chosen with great
details and smooth flow.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Don't worry, there were a lot of judgements concerning gay people. (They stole a word from the English language too) God told us to love our neighbour anyway. But we slink around speaking dishonesty anyway, love the statement, "the door fell of its hinges" beautifully written blessings Roy

This is an excellent 750 milestone post. Congratulations on this. I enjoyed reading and it's very true we should never make assumptions about anything.
