This was fabulous and I think the meaning of the song portends the end of the world or at least, from the individual's perspective of life. Sorry I missed voting in this. Congratulations on your prize!!

Congratualtions on you win on the free verse poetry. I certainly agree with the judges on that one. I loved it. As to Shades of Empty I had a lot of fun writint it. I was trying to Sound of Silence make sense to I did come up with a bit of a different meaning. LOL

This parody, Shades of Empty, takes the foundation of Sound of Silence and stretches it out to reveal the end of the world and the the next life. Wow!

You certainly have a talent for lyrics and it was easy to hear the musical notes in my head as I read your words. Rhyming and flow are well done. Good work.

I'm glad you felt I did justice to this haunting song. Thank you for reading and comment on it.

I have always loved this song and this melody. I believe the lyrics of the original refer to the Communist rule and the Cold War in the 1960s, and what happens when people don't speak up against oppressive powers etc.
Your lyrics made sense to me - hahaa even though you warned they wouldn't.

Thank you for a great review and for telling what you believe the first version means. I've heard many diffferent interruptations and yours could be the right one.

You are right. The melody to this song is haunting, but your re-written lyrics are beautiful and fit this type of melody, perfectly. I especially liked your stanza that began, "Soul", I cried "You cannot see How keeping silent troubles me." I like the rhyming of "feel you, real you, thoughts like feathers flew." To me, these are creatively, sincere thoughts and feelings. You did a great job. Best wishes in the contest.

I never really knew what S and G's song really meant either. But I guess it's about social isolation and people not communicating. Hah! If they only knew about the devices kids use today. But I believe I understood your version. The past coming yo haunt and taunt you. Anyway. I enjoyed the read!

Thank you so much for a great review. I'm thrilled to hear you say it is better than the original. I"ve always love the original without fully comprehending the meaning.
Comment from Wendy G
I like it, and I think your words do all support the "shades of empty" idea. You've written it well, as the words do seem to go well with the rhythm and flow of the original song. Best wishes for your entry in the contest.

This is just a well-done entry to this Re-write a Song contest. The text is a good size. The message is clearly stated. It's a dark, brooding poem so it fits the mood of the original song. The visual fits perfectly. I will be very surprised if this entry is not in the top three. There's not one area this entry doesn't fit. Good luck in the contest.

"silence is like a cancer that grows." These words really hit home. I have always liked the video song; and you did very well in rewriting the words in your rewritten song. Good job!
